Marion H. Marquardt Issue Date: January 6, 2021 Marion Hazel (Leffler) Marquardt (Grandma "M"), 93, of Cody, Wy., formerly of Coleman, Wi. and Akron, Oh., passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 in her sleep at Brookdale Absaroka.
Born July 27, 1927 in Akron, Oh., to Ruth and Earl Leffler, she had three sisters, Jo Anne, Bonnie Lou and Dorothy Jean (Sis) and two brothers, Arthur and William. She married Stanley William Martin on June 15, 1946 and they had four children, Jack, twins, Dene and Ken and Robert (Bob). Her husband Stanley preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1960.
She then married Wilfred Carl Marquardt on March 26, 1961 and became the "step" mother to Dennis Marquardt. She and her husband then had a son, Rick, who was the apple of her eye.
The couple had a dairy farm in Coleman, where the family learned the importance of hard work and never doubted how much their mother loved them. Later they bought a cottage on Lake Julia, where all the family visited and now have many memories of laughing, swimming and fishing. Her fried fish recipe is infamous and will be carried on through the generations.
In 2008, they moved to Cody, Wy. to be near their family, where they started attending Cody Methodist Church. She quickly made many friends but never lost touch with her friends in Wisconsin. She called and wrote them letters, even after her hand-writing became too small to read.
For as long as all the kids could remember, their mother always loved the Lord and lived her life for Jesus. On April 16, 2017, she was baptized in front of her loved ones, which was a special day for her. Other than loving Jesus and her family, she enjoyed playing cards and knitting. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout Den mother, 4H Leader, Ladies Aide and many other things.
With a keen memory, she shared funny old stories with anyone who would listen and her stories never changed or altered. A sweet and gentle woman, she was loved by everyone who knew her.
Survivors include six children Dennis Marquardt, Jack (Diane) Martin, Dene (Jerry) Tachick, Ken Martin, Robert (Cindy) Martin and Rick Marquardt; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two sisters, Dorothy and Jo Anne.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by both husbands, Stanley Martin and Wilfred Marquardt; two brothers, Arthur and William; a sister, Bonnie and a grandson, Brock.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. at Ballard Funeral Home. Donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cody.
