THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Elias Family Pays Forward With Random Kindness Act
Issue Date: January 13, 2021
According to her brother and sister, the late Teri (Elias) Ziegler, a former Peshtigo resident, often talked about the importance of following through with God-inspired random acts of kindness. Ziegler died of cancer on Dec. 10, 2020. With the intention of keeping her memory alive and promoting the ideal of paying forward, siblings Todd Elias of Peshtigo and Tina (Elias) Baye of Crivitz recently donated over $300 in gift cards from local businesses to the City of Peshtigo Police and Fire Departments in her name to be passed along as random acts of kindness.
Tina explained that for many years she and Teri had gotten together for a "sisters weekend" in Florida, where Teri was a counselor. She said during those visits they always talked about the importance of doing random acts of kindness for people.
"It's all about paying forward and helping out where we can," Tina said. Because of their sister's belief in the "paying forward" ideal, after her death Todd and Tina decided to donate and pay forward with the gift card idea. They are children of Marian and Bill Elias of Peshtigo.
For input on ways to help, Todd and Tina went to Peshtigo City Hall, where they were greeted by longtime friend Tracy Jandt who is deputy clerk/treasurer for the City. After a discussion with Jandt they decided to split the number of gift cards with the Police and Fire Departments because both departments get into situations where people need help and sometimes a random act of kindness can go a long way. "It is a great feeling knowing we are able to pay forward and help others," Todd Elias declared.
Tina plans to keep the pay forward idea moving ahead and is currently looking for gently used suitcases and backpacks so she can fill them with healthcare items and donate them to shelters or anyone who might need a random act of kindness. She can be contacted by calling 715-927-6149 or by sending her a letter addressed to Tina Baye, N7643 Pioneer Road, Crivitz, WI 54114.
