Marines Sweep Home Quad; Bulldogs Grab Dual WinIssue Date: January 27, 2021 Marines Sweep Home Quad, Beat Crivitz/ Niagara/ Florence on Criteria
Marinette hosted Elcho, Gillett/Suring and the co-op of Crivitz, Florence and Niagara (Northwoods Storm) on Thursday, with the Marines beating all three opponents on the day.
Marinette beat Elcho by a 36-6 score and Gillett-Suring by a 41-0 tally. The Crivitz/Northwoods Storm co-op tied Marinette 30-30 but the Marines would claim the match on criteria.
Against Elcho, there were just three live matches: Marinette's Jonny Bieber (152) pinned Pete McCabe in 3 minutes, 44 seconds, Domenic Paradiso (160) pinned Aiden Stimac in 45 seconds and Elcho's Mason Rusch (182) pinned Dakota Cuff in 5:10.
Marinette got forfeit wins from Cole Vargo (120), Isaiah Walker (132), Owen Suennen (138) and Josh Walker (145).
Josh Walker was one of only two wrestlers with live competition against Gillett/Suring and he made the most of it, beating Carter Whisman in a 2-minute, 14-second pin. Suennen (138) beat Keegan Rattin by tech fall.
Isaiah Walker (132), Bieber (152), Paradiso (160) and Cuff (182) won by forfeit.

Bulldogs Win Conference Finale With Clippers 29-21
Peshtigo won three of five live matches on the way to a 29-21 team win over Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol.
Connor Thomas (195) beat Drew Barganz by 16-0 tech fall in 5:45. It was a good way to cap off the regular season for the promising freshman, especially considering he's been working at the 195-pound weight class.
"Most of the kids you're running into are seniors. Basically adults, built like it, and he's done really well," Peshtigo coach Kory Weed said, adding that Thomas is "really technically sound, and it shows out there and he's been able to really do really well at that weight class, not just here but all season."
Weed said Thomas has his technique "to a T," which helps him overcome disadvantadges in physical maturity that other wrestlers might have over him.
Cole Sherman (106) pinned Conor Waterstreet in 28 seconds.
Weed said Sherman has been struggling this year, but had a "breakout match" against Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol after coming out aggressive.
Another wrestler with a big momentum booster going into regionals this weekend is Kyle Rupert, who pinned Hayden Ahlswede in a minute and four seconds in the 152-pound weight class.
Weed said Rupert "took a beautiful shot to start off things" and capitalized.
"It's great to see, the end of the season right before regionals, that big confidence boost," he said.
Peshtigo also got forfeit victories from Reese Yunke (120) and Ethan Brissette (126).
For Sturgeon Bay, Ben DeNamur (132) pinned Brendan Conn in 3:25 and Ben Roman (285) beat Kody Klimek by 6-1 decision. Julia Gregory (145) and Craven Lautenbach (160) each won by forfeit.
Oconto Drops Dual with Sturgeon Bay/ Sevastopol in Final Conference Dual
Oconto fell 36-5 to Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol on Thursday, losing three of four live matches.
Oconto's five points came from Dominic Caylor beating Hayden Ahlswede in a 4-minute, 22-second tech fall by a score of 16-1.
For SB/Sevastopol, Craven Lautenbach (160) pinned Kyleigh Beekman in 36 seconds, Drew Barganz (195) pinned Owen Hansen in 3:23 and Ben Roman (285) pinned Aiden Diaz in 2:39.
SB/Sevastopol also won by forfeit at three weight classes.
