From our readersIssue Date: February 24, 2021 Dear Editor:
Before 2020, I would have addressed issues differently. During 2020 my family and my life pretty much became an open book. I truly look at things differently now. When people write things, put things on Facebook or in the paper that are not true, I am going to address them.
In last weeks, Feb. 17th edition of the Peshtigo Times, Mr. Rick Berth addressed the citizens of Peshtigo in a letter to the Editor in regards to the article titled "City of Peshtigo Partners With Historical Committee" that was in the Feb. 10th Peshtigo Times edition. Again, I need to make corrections that were not properly put into his letter.
This year the City of Peshtigo will celebrate 150 years since the Great Peshtigo Fire. The Celebration is for the City of Peshtigo that we have survived, rebuilt and will continue to thrive as a community from the Great Peshtigo Fire. We are also commemorating the lives lost and the survivors that can share memories of their loved ones.
In January, I, Mayor Malke, went before the Finance Committee and asked for $25,000 to have the availability of funds and not have to call a finance meeting every time a bill comes in. Mr. Berth was told at the Finance Meeting what the money would be used for. At the Council meeting, Mr. Berth did vote to support this funding, but he failed to say that on that very same night, he posted on Facebook stating he regretted voting for approving the $25,000.
It would be a lengthy process if every time we need to buy or pay on something for the commemeration, to have a meeting and wait for Council approval. I asked for the $25,000 to purchase items that, once sold, the money would be put back into the City funds. I did inform the Council there may possibly be some items that would not be reimbursed for, but for the most part there will be reimbursement.
When Mr. Berth stated he does not get any information from me, that is totally incorrect. Approximately four weeks have gone by since the Finance meeting when we discussed the 150th and I find it funny now that everything is planned, he decides that he now wants to get involved.
Mr. Berth is correct when he said, the article stated "Alderman are proud and excited to be partnering with the Historical Day Committee". Mr Berth is also correct when he stated I did not ask him if I could put his name in the paper. For that, I do apologize if that offended you. It was my mistake that I assumed he was proud and excited for the citizens of Peshtigo just as all the other Alderpersons were.
It is the second to the last paragraph in his letter to the editor in reference to the Water and Sewer Committee that truly bothers me. Mr. Berth has approached me saying an Alderman should be put on the Water and Sewer Committee to make them accountable for what they do and he questioned why they are paid at a higher rate for meetings. First of all, two of the members on the Water and Sewer Committee are Engineers and the third one was a business owner. They don't just show up for meetings, they do their research and are very prepared when they make their recommendation to the Council. I have tried explaining to Mr. Berth that he already holds them accountable as he has the ability to vote yes or no to their recommendations. The Water and Sewer Committee members do not cast a vote, they make recommendations to the Alderman to vote on. They truly are an asset to the City with all their knowledge and expertise and I am grateful for everything they do.
Thank You for your time and be safe.

The United States of America...one nation under God, with liberty and justice for all.
What ever happened? I read the letters to the Editor last week with great sadness. It appears hate now rules what is left of our Republic. The winning side wants total destruction of the opposition. It seems our schools now teach how to be socialists, how to hate your neighbor for the color of their skin. History is being ignored and rewritten. Our country has forgotten its roots and the Constitution is being replaced by popular opinion. The bedrock this nation was founded upon has become shifting sand. Forces from within and without vie to take control. If they win, the only Free, the only Great Republic that ever existed on this earth, will join all the other nations on the trash heap of time. Then where will all the people who clamor to cross our borders go? When we have given all the money we do not have to everyone who says "give me", what then? When all the prisons are emptied and the police are defunded, what then? When the law abiding citizens are disarmed and crime runs rampant, what then? When churches are closed and Christians are hunted as terrorists, what then? When oil, gas, coal and wood are regulated out of existence, what then? Will the Green New Deal keep us warm, supply electricity, water to drink, run our cars, tractors and planes? think not. Insanity has overwhelmed our country, we have been taken over by a ruling class of children..."Capricious children will rule over them." Isaiah 3:46 "Justice" is selectively given by those with the most power and money. Equal rights are not so equal any more.
We are looking more and more like pre-war Germany who convinced the public that a certain group of people were enemies of the state. Then they were hated, dehumanized and eventually rounded up an d killed. Don't think it can't happen here. It happened in Eastern Europe, France, Russia, China, VietNam and Cambodia just to mention a few.
America always had something different to offer...FREEDOM! Now is 2021 that light of freedom flickers low. So, what happened?
This country was founded by a group of men who had grown tired of tyranny. These men were not perfect, in fact they were sinners just like you and me. But they gave us the most precious gift, LIBERTY. Most believed in God and would come to understand that freedom belonged to everyone regardless of color or creed. But what happened, you may still ask?
The answer is long and sad. Darwin, who in the 1800's found an alternative for the Creator, God. "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God" Psalm 14:1 Somehow he decided evolution began in the distant past. His ideas spread until they touched the United States. They began to be widely accepted, especially by those who found God to be inconvenient.
The religion of evolution, where something crawled around and developed all the things necessary to sustain life, including an incredibly complex brain, to, I suppose, keep from being stepped on by dinosaurs. All plants and animals also just randomly happened. By the way, there are only three ways life could come to be. Primordial soup, transfer of life from another planet or by a Creator God.
Time passed and eventually schools began to teach only evolution. We came from nothing, we go to nowhere and we are responsible to no one. The belief in God is simple, but there's a problem. If there is a creator, then mankind is subject to Him. That is not acceptable to many, especially the intelligentsia. Just like in Judges 17:6, everyone now is doing what is right in their own eyes.
So prayer in schools was discarded as a relic of the past. The separation of church and state was misunderstood and purposely misused. Life became cheap which ushered in abortion in all its hideous forms. Strange new beliefs took root; things we never thought possible a few years ago.
Lying and cheating became an everyday norm. The lust for money, fame and power took over our nation. It's kind of funny, in a sad sort of way, people cheat and steal all the while frantically heading for that little box they are buried in. No one gets away with anything. "...it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgement." Hebrews 9:27 "...every word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment" Matthew 12:36
I believe God in His sovereign power planned for this country to be established. But if we continue to insist on denying and defying Him, He can easily destroy this nation. "The wicked will return to hell, even all the nations who forget God." Psalm 9:17
We are being warned by God through all the upheaval of nature; among them earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, storms, cold, heat and drought. Will we listen and turn to God? I doubt it. "There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." Proverbs 14:12 I believe the nation as a whole is doomed."
When this country decided to turn away from God and make Him our enemy, He left us alone to solve our own problems. you see how that's going. "...the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His anointed saying, "Let us hear their fetters apart and cast their cords from us!' He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them" Psalm 2:2-4
Now, on a personal level, what will you do with the Lord Jesus Christ? As the United States and the world destroy themselves, you can have "the peace of God which passes all understanding," Philippians 4ś The Lord waits for you. In this confused and wicked time in which we live, people are looking for three things; (1) Where to find joy, peace and meaning in life, (2) How to find truth in life. There are so many lies everywhere. Even Pontius Pilate asked Jesus "What is truth?" (3) A way to have contentment in this life and assurance of eternal life in heaven. Jesus promised all of this when He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me." John 14:6 "...I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly," John 10:10
As this country sinks further into immorality, injustice, turmoil and abandonment of God, you can still have peace with the Lord and and be assured of eternal life. Just reach out to Him, repent of your sin and accept Jesus as your Savior. He has been reaching out to you. "The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord," Romans 6:23 Someone has to die for your sin, let it be Jesus. "Come unto me all who are weary and burdened and I (Jesus) will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

The German people had only one source for news when the nationalist socialist party was in power under Hitler. After a while they believed what they heard, and became violent against the Jews, intellectuals, communists and unions.
Never Trumpers have fallen into the same type of brainwashing. The major media gave them a bad guy and they loved it once more they believed it. Almost every anti-Trump letter in the paper is nearly verbatum from that media.
There were other sources of news: RT, Newsmax, One America News and even Fox. To have changed channels and entertained another point of view would have challenged an already determined mind set.
Why are the never Trumpers still barking him when they should be praising the accomplishments of the new President, like rising gas prices?
To the lady in Niagara: read article 2 section 4 of the constitution. You can't impeach some one who isn't in office.
For lack of knowledge my people are destroyed. Hosea 4-6

Dear Editor,
For the past few years oligarchs on the right and anarchists on the left have turned father against mother, brother against sister, child against parent, neighbor against neighbor, and Christian against Christ.
Seems that now 57% of Republicans consider Democrats "enemies" rather than "political opposition," and 41% of Democrats consider Republicans "enemies" rather than "political opposition," according to a CBS poll.
Neither the rich nor the lawless can win this fight on the basis of right, or education, or law, so they must club their enemies with propaganda, interest rates, private armies, and sedition.
Is there any way Americans can learn to love their neighbors once again?
Sincerely,
Kimball Shinkoskey

Dear Editor:
Following the past Primary Election of February 16, 2021, which included a Primary for the Town of Middle Inlet Board of Supervisors, it was noted that the required notices and publication (Ref: Chap. 10-02- Wis. Statutes) of the facsimile ballot and information to the electors WAS NOT posted and published. Therefore, the majority of electors in the Town of Middle Inlet were not award of the impact of this primary
It was reported that the Clerk was confronted regarding this lack of compliance, and the response was ... "I forgot!" In another instance, the Clerk claimed that the information was published. However, after contacting the Peshtigo Times (the official newspaper of record) it was indicated that no required publication was presented by the Town of Middle Inlet for said primary.
Intentional (??) or not, this level of competency is unacceptable. The responsibilities pertaining to the election process are of the utmost importance. The electors of the Town of Middle Inlet deserve better!
Charles Stanek
