Wausaukee To Hold Zoning Change Hearing March 10

Issue Date: February 24, 2021

Wausaukee Plan Commission will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 to consider adopting a resolution amending the Comprehensive Plan to change the land use of tax parcels two parcels from "Residential' and "Woodlands/Natural Area' to "Commercial', and to consider a Zoning Map Application from Charlie De Schmidt to rezone those parcels 191-00618.003 and 191-00618.005 from "Residential' and "Woodlands/Natural Area' to "Commercial'.

Charlie De Schmidt has also applied for a Conditional Use Permit Application to construct commercial storage units on the parcels.

Village President Pat Tracy encouraged Village Board members to attend the Plan Commission's public hearing, as they are expected to act on the recommendations at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 17.

In other action at the Feb. 17 board meeting, Maija Seppanen of Cedar Corporation, gave an update on progress of the municipal well construction.

Seppanen stated that drilling was supposed to start on Monday, Feb. 15 but due to the extremely cold temperatures, the drilling was postponed a week. She continued that staking was done on the day of the meeting, and drilling was to start on Monday, Feb. 22. She explained that this should not be an issue in terms of the schedule as the substantial completion date remains Friday, March 19. Seppanen said once field work is done, water quality labs must be done, which take about four weeks.

In regard to the well house construction, Seppanen stated that the pre-construction meeting would likely be scheduled in the next week or two, with construction to begin after March 22.

Seppanen stated that she contacted Carfair regarding the flow and pressure requirements for their fire suppression system. She said that the goal, depending on the numbers, is to eliminate the private fire protection system entirely, and provide protection from the municipal water system. Once Carfair provides their flow and pressure requirements, Cedar will run the numbers and get back to the Board regarding their findings.

Present for the meeting in addition to Tracy, Pullen and Seppanen were trustees Darryll Schmidt, J. J. Feldmann, JoAnn Polomis, Steve Stumbris, and Derrick McGee; Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Emily Tadisch, Public Works Supervisor Dennis Whitton, WWTP Operator Jeff Mayou, WWTP Operator in Training Tylor Stumbris, and Ruth Jicha. Trustee Mack McKim was excused.

The Board reviewed the Public Works Report presented by Whitton and the Utility Report presented by Mayou and approved the bills for payment as printed. The Board also reviewed the Treasurer's Report as presented by Pullen.

Pullen gave a demonstration of the new reservation software for the Evergreen Park campground and pavilions called "Campspot." The program is free to the Village minus a $2 transaction fee every time someone uses the online system to make a reservation. This fee is applied to the customer at checkout. Users can access the new reservation software from the Village website.

A Park's Committee meeting was scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24 to discuss construction completion tasks for May 2021 opening of Evergreen Park and Campground.

After brief discussion the board agreed to renew the Water/Sewer Replacement Fund CD at Stephenson National Bank and Trust.

The meeting, which began at 6 p.m., was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
