100 Women Giving Back-Northwoods Donates $7,000 to Oconto River Kids

Issue Date: June 10, 2021

For the last nine years, the non-for-profit group Oconto River Kids (ORK) has been making dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses. Last week, a group of women called "100 Women Giving Back - Northwoods", donated $7,000 to ORK to help with their mission.

Founded in 2012, by an Oconto County landowner and local game warden, ORK provides hunting and fishing experiences for sick children and their families. The charitable organization has a passion to provide these opportunities that would otherwise not be possible.

"Funds will be dedicated to our travel and lodging expenses for the kids and their families. ORK picks up all lodging expenses and contributes to travel expenses for the participants. Our participants usually have a lot of medical expenses and this will help us continue to make these adventures free for the families," says ORK president Eric Bonatz.

100 Women Giving Back Northwoods is a group of like-minded, passionate women who are dedicated to actively making a positive difference in their community.  Combining their financial resources allows these women to make a large-scale contribution and make a significant difference to a worthwhile local charity without a huge commitment of time.

Founded just two months ago, this original group of five women has turned into a group of 77 today, largely due to friends and community members spreading the excitement via word of mouth, and it is growing. The women are driven by their desire to support non-profit groups that impact Marinette, Menominee & Oconto counties and to help them flourish. Their goal is not only to provide financial assistance but to bring awareness about local charities, like ORK.

The women meet four times a year, for one hour. During the meeting, three-member names are randomly drawn and each member nominates a local non-profit of their choosing. All members cast a vote from that list and then write a check for $100 directly to the charity that is picked. Their first give-back meeting was last week, and Oconto River Kids received the first donation.

"It is incredibly rewarding to be a part of this amazing group of women who have the common goal of wanting to make a big difference. I love the simple, straightforward approach. As we continue to grow, I cannot wait to see the impact we will have in our communities",  says Brie Wolfe, one of the members.

To learn more about the group 100 Women Giving Back-Northwoods, or to become a member visit their Facebook page "100 Women Giving Back Northwoods" or email them at: 100womennorthwoods@gmail.com.

The next one-hour-long giving event will be in August 2021.  Guests are welcome as well as new members as they try to reach 100 women.
