Patriot Club Raises $6,000 For BDP, Goodman Youth

Issue Date: July 22, 2021

Superintendent Andy Space advised Beecher-Dunbar-School Board at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 14 that the recently held first annual golf outing of the newly formed Patriot Club raised $6,000 to support youth activities in the Beecher/Dunbar/Pembine and Goodman/Armstrong Creek school districts.

Space said the staff at Four Seasons as well as volunteers from both school districts worked hard to make the event a success. He added that golfers had very positive comments and many plan to attend again next year, and expressed thanks to all who attended and helped.

Board members present for the meeting were Brian Bousley, Brian Parr, Mandy McLain, and President Vicki Fick. Board member Ryan Berger was excused.

During time for public comment, Dave Johnson asked that the Daycare closed session item be moved into open session. However, due to the nature of the discussion, the decision was to leave the Daycare issue in closed session.

The 4th Quarter-End of Year Honor Roll was presented. Space reported that students finished the year strong despite facing the challenges that COVID presented this year.

Space will be attending the 2021 WASDA Summer Legal Conference from Wednesday, July 28 through Friday, July 30. Topics to be covered include COVID, updates on the State Budget, and other legal concerns that affect school districts.

Updates to Staff and Student Handbooks are being worked on and will be presented at the August board meeting.

The board's July workshop meeting will be canceled unless pressing business comes up.

The board was informed that the parking lot has been sealed and painted, floors are being waxed, and classroom cleaning is on schedule. Updates to Mr. Erno's office are in progress. They are waiting for quotes on fascia to be placed around the building to prevent some leaking issues. Markell is scheduled to work on roofing on the elementary end of the building in August. Outdoor classrooms are in bad repair.

The workout room will be relocated to the main building due to safety concerns. Quotes will be looked into to determine the cost for possible demolition and removal of some buildings.

One alternative application for open enrollment out had been received. Motion to approve the application out was received by McLain, but there was no second, so the motion failed.

Geana Papp has applied for the position of Sophomore Class Advisor and Kristen LaValley has applied for Healthy Youth Coalition (SADD) Advisor. Both applications were unanimously approved.

Annual dues for WASBO and WASDA were approved. These organizations provide support for the Fiscal Manager and the District Administrator.

Board members are still reviewing preliminary budget figures for next year.

Board members present unanimously approved a motion to go into closed Executive Session to discuss 2021-2022 Staffing.

They later approved motions to increase support staff starting wages for the 2021/22 school year to $11.25 per hour and set the Summer Maintenance Helper wage at $10.75 per hour effective at the hire date. Bousley abstained from voting on that motion.

Compensation for Title IX Coordinators was set at $750 per year for the 2020/21 school year.

Title IX Coordinators compensation was set at $100 per occurrence for the 2021/22 school year and is to be reviewed on a quarterly basis for a number of occurrences.

Motion to increase the starting wage for daycare workers for the 2021/22 school year to $11.25 per hour was approved without dissent. After certification is complete workers will receive an additional $.75 cents per hour.

Motion to set the wage for Summer Daycare Helper at $10 per hour effective at hire date.was approved without dissent. Bousley abstained.

The next regular board meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11.
