James R. FalkenbergIssue Date: January 6, 2022 James "Doc" Raymond Falkenberg, 67, of Marinette, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
Born on June 13, 1954, he was the son of the late Carl and Margaret (Hunting) Falkenberg. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, "favorite son", and friend to all whom he met. Doc's family was witness to two miracles in his lifetime. Doc was born with a growth on his lung, a particular anomaly that had always been fatal in children. At eight days of age, he was taken to UW-Madison for surgery. It was the first successful operation of its kind. The eighth of 9 children, he was a delightful and fun-loving addition to his family.
As a teen, Doc survived a near-fatal car accident. Complications from a fractured leg resulted in him being in a coma for four months. Physicians noted that if he regained consciousness, he never would be able to walk or talk. THROUGH unceasing prayers of his family and community, he woke up from his coma. With strong faith and determination, he completed a difficult rehabilitation program at UW-Madison. He went on to graduate from Marinette Catholic Central High School in 1973.
In addition to working at Haller's Beverage, where he was more well-known than the character "Norm" on the television series, "Cheers", he held many jobs in service to others. As an employee of the Salvation Army, he took care of the facilities and picked up donated supplies from community members. For many years, he mowed lawns, shoveled snow and chopped more wood than Paul Bunyon.
In 1985, Doc married Lynn Boivin, his wife for twenty years. His proudest contribution to the world was his beloved son, Jacob. Doc loved spending time with his family, and his grandchildren were the apples of his eye. Doc was always available whenever help was needed and he never said a bad word about anyone.
He was a voracious reader, amassing a little library's worth of books. An avid athlete growing up, he loved to watch, talk, and read about sports. He loved the Packers, and one of his biggest idols was Rocky Bleier.
When you shook Doc's oversized hand, you knew you were a friend. When you received a bear hug from Doc, you knew you were loved.
With his twinkling blue eyes, hearty laugh, jovial personality, and heart of gold, Doc was an example of pure love. That is how his family, friends, and community will remember him!
Doc is survived by his son, Jacob Falkenberg of Marinette; a daughter-in-law, Amber; grandchildren, Adam and Ashlyn Falkenberg of Marinette; brothers, Ken (Marjie)of Albuquerque, NM, Bruce (Dawn) of Rosemount, MN, Kirby (Claudia) of Sarasota, FL, and Mark (Terri) of Menominee; sisters, Catherine "Ann" Falkenberg of Independence, MO and Mary Falkenberg of Marinette; sister-in-law, Sally Falkenberg of Peshtigo; many nieces and nephews and Godfather to Danielle Awe and Dan Falkenberg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Chuck.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 5th from 4-8pm with a Vigil Service at 8pm. Additional time of visitation will be held on Thursday, January 6th from 10-11am at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph's Church on Carney Blvd. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11am with Fr. John Harper officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the grandchildren's education fund.
