John Hofer Stewart, 70, of Spring, Tx., passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022.
Born in Menominee, Mi., to Leverett Stewart and Milbrey Hofer Stewart, he graduated from Menominee High School and started a career in auto body and auto painting at Gustman Chevrolet and also worked at Bernie's Auto Body and in the paint shop at Enstrom Helicopter in Menominee. In 1980, he moved to Texas where he worked in the aviation refurbishing industry.
After a few years, he established Space City Aircraft at David Wayne Hooks Airport in Spring, Tx., doing custom paint finishes for vintage aircraft and private-owner aircraft and helicopters. He had his renowned artistic displays as shown at the Lone Star Flight Museum and many air shows over the years. He enjoyed making the best Texas BBQ, good music and dancing.
His survivors include a daughter, Sara Stewart; son-in-law, Rick Smaile; son, Lucas Stewart; daughter-in-law, Allison Stewart; three grandchildren; three sisters, Jane (Gerald) Cook of Arizona, Ruth Ann (Richard) Johnson of Texas and Mary Stewart of Menominee, Mi.; nephews; his former wife, Darlene Stewart and many friends he considered family.
