Joanne C. (Christiansen) Craig, 82, of Sioux City, Ia., passed away Thursday evening, April 21, 2022, due to cancer in the comfort of her home.
Born in Menominee, Mi., to Virginia and Peter Christiansen, from the beginning of her childhood growing up on the shore of Lake Michigan to the end of her life, she loved boating, swimming, fishing, golfing and in winter, cross country and down-hill skiing. She enjoyed time with family and friends playing bridge, Euchre and Liverpool, which was a family favorite.
She was a successful City Manager for cities such as Allegan, Bangor and Plainwell, Mi., and to the east coast of Claremont, N.H. In retirement, she kept active with PEO, Catholic Sisterhood, Holy Cross and GOP activities and had a lot of fun as a Walmart Greeter.
Survivors include three children, John G. (Cindy) Vermilye Jr., Julee V. (Mark) Zugel and Jodie V. (Mark) Bracken; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews and her first husband, Jack Vermilye Sr. (Sally).
Including her parents, she was preceded her in death by a brother, Donald Christiansen and a sister, Alice Mae Rosenbaum.
Visitation was held at Meyer Brothers Funeral Home on Hamilton Blvd., Sioux City, Ia. on Thursday, April 28 from 6 p.m. until time of a Vigil at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menomonee, Mi. Donations can be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland.
