The Peshtigo Girls' soccer team played its second game in as many days in windy and cold temperatures. This time, the Bulldogs put the pressure on the Two Rivers Raiders and never let up. Coach Jessica Carriveau said, "We give them a lot of credit, they are also a new program and are having to play with 10 players. Playing 10 v 10 helped us work on positioning and ball control."
Junior Cassie Flett felt that the team communication on the field and the excitement on the bench was excellent throughout the game, helping to keep everyone active and engaged. "It was a unique game experience and learning opportunity as most of us were able to play positions we were not accustomed to." Junior captain Brooklyn Phillips agreed, "It was a good game to learn from and we found passing lanes and opportunities to lead each other down the field with good ball movement. There was positive energy and excitement for each other experiencing different positions."
The Bulldogs scored early with two goals from Audra Bauman. As the game progressed, Lorelei Maxwell jumped in with a pair of her own. Bauman got back into the scoring with her third goal and Aiyah Fargahli added two more in the second half. Brenna Fischer and Brooklyn Phillips each added to the scoring as the girls finished the game early with a 10-0 score (one "own" goal from Two Rivers). The Bulldogs will be hosting their first-ever home game on May 7th at 10:00 against NEW Lutheran.
Peshtigo Girls Soccer Grab
a Win/Tie on the Pitch
The Peshtigo girls soccer team was back in action on Monday, April 25th after a week of game cancellations and practice. They traveled to Sevastopol where they played the Pioneers to a 2-2 tie game in freezing rain, wind, and cold. The Bulldogs went down 1-0 in the first half until Freshman forward Audra Bauman was able to pressure the ball into the net and end the first half at a 1-1 tie. The Bulldogs got behind again in the second half until Sophomore midfielder Lorelei Maxwell was able to capitalize on a penalty kick when Bauman was tripped up by the defending goalie. Sophomore Lucy Lemire played a full game in the net for the Bulldogs and made several key saves, especially in the second half.
Senior Salsbeel Salem felt the team played well and kept up positive morale despite the conditions. "We kept communicating and trying to keep the ball and our movements as fluid as possible. The ball was difficult to control, but we were happy with the outcome."
