THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 List Coming Events
Issue Date: May 5, 2022
Earlier this year the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 66 of Athelstane/Silver Cliff agreed to sponsor students for the Badger Boy/Girl Program. They went to Wausaukee High School to do a presentation for the eligible high school students. They will sponsor one Badger Boy this June. It is a great program for young adults.
At the April meeting, Unit 66 member Amy Vann gave a presentation about the possible formation of a Post 66 Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron in the community. A SAL Squadron is made up of all age groups. Eligibility includes all male descendants, including adopted sons and step children, of American Legion Members. It also includes all male descendants of veterans who have since passed away. The Sal Programs often parallel the American Legion so they may work together on various community activities. This could be a great program for the community. Contact Amy Vann or Dee Farley for more information.
Unit 66 Member Ann Wender is the official Associate Representative for the Oscar G. Johnson Medical Center in Iron Mountain. Ann has been volunteering at the facility for several years. They are in need of more volunteers now as the restrictions for COVID have eased somewhat. Contact Ann for more information if willing to donate time to help veterans.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 sponsored Wausaukee School Students for the 2022 Poppy Poster Contest. There were over 100 students that entered the contest this year. The entries have been judged and the winners will now go on to the Ninth District Competition. Thank you to Wausaukee School Art Teacher Jamie Wszelaki for all her help.
