THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Roger L. Campbell
Issue Date: May 11, 2022
Roger Lawrence Campbell, 82, of Peshtigo, passed away Saturday, May 7, after a brief illness.
Born May 11, 1939, the eldest of seven children, to Lawrence and Dorothy Campbell, he lived his childhood on the family farm in the Town of Stephenson. After graduating from Crivitz High School in 1957, he attended the University of Wisconsin's agricultural short course. In 1962, he was inducted into the United States Army during peacetime, serving at Fort Knox and Fort Campbell before an honorable discharge. He moved to Green Bay where he worked at Fort Howard Paper Company and worked in the paper industry there, and at Badger Paper Mill in Peshtigo.
On May 6, 1967, he married Lana Risner and she preceded him in death in 2015. In 1972, they had their first son, Craig, and, later that year, moved to Peshtigo, where they lived the rest of their lives. Two more sons arrived in later years, Clark in 1977 and Curt in 1980.
A lifelong Packer fan, he shared stories of attending games during the team's 1960s heyday and could tell every mistake the Packer organization made over the course of the decades, but still watched and rooted for them week by week. In 2006, he became grandfather to his granddaughter, Calysta. His sense of humor will be missed by all who loved him.
Along with his parents in 2002, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lana in 2015 and a sister, Betty Campbell in 2003.
He is survived by three sons, Craig, Clark and Curt; a grand-daughter; five siblings, John (Linda), Ken (Diane), Dorothy, Edith (Ken) Schnitker and Letha Carriveau; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Monday, May 16 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Marinette. Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home of Peshtigo is serving the family.
