Town of Goodman Awarded M&M Grant

The Town of Goodman received a $750 Philanthropy grant from the M&M Area Community Foundation. The grant was presented by M&M's Executive Director, Paula Gruszysnki, at the Goodman Town Board meeting on Monday, March 20.

The grant will be used to enhance the area surrounding Goodman's new Veterans' Memorial, including new a metal sign designating the area as "Memorial Square." County Considers Loan For Marinette Project

The City of Marinette's request for $1.5 million from Marinette County to complete financing for their proposed Community Sports and Event Center has met with less than enthusiastic reception from some supervisors on Marinette County Board. After much discussion on Monday, March 20, the Finance Committee voted three to one to send the city's request to the Executive Committee without a recommendation.

Peshtigo Okays Raises, Awards Town Audit Bid

At the regular monthly Peshtigo Town Board meeting on Tuesday, March 21, Chair Herman Pottratz announced that Jerry Pennings has asked to be removed from the Board of Appeals, and a replacement will be sought. He thanked Pennings for 13 years of service, and asked that an official thank you letter be sent to him from the town. "He did a good job while he was on there and rarely missed a meeting," Pottratz commented.

Only One Water Main Freeze-Up This Winter

The recently completed winter was a relatively good one for Peshtigo in terms of water main freeze-ups, Public Works Director George Cowell reported to the city's Water and Sewer Committee on Tuesday March 21. Cowell said there was one frozen water main and one service break on water so far this year. However, he cautioned that sometimes strange things happen during spring thaw, which is currently in progress.

County Board To Air Options For Civic Center Financing

A number of important decisions, reports and discussions are facing Marinette County Board at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 28, including the City of Marinette's request for a $1.5 million contribution toward construction of its proposed Civic/Recreation Center. An alternate plan proposed by County Administrator John leFebvre for a loan to help finance that project while leaving the county's reserve funds intact will also be up for discussion.
