THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Sentinel Structures Trucks Oversized Load of Arches
Another oversized load of structural glued laminated timber departed Sentinel Structures, Inc. of Peshtigo. They are used to frame the roof of a new office building for Farmer's Union Industries at Redwood Falls, Minn. The width of 13 feet was necessary for the large, curved arches. Because eight feet is the legal width for vehicles, special permits were necessary for the wide load.
The first overwidth load was followed by a second, legal width load. In excess of 60,000 pounds southern pine straight beams and curved arches were shipped .
The warmth and beauty of natural wood will be seen in the lobby and waiting areas along with general offices and the board room of the new corporate head- quarters.
Local businesses assisted Sentinel Structures with the project. Connection steel was made by G & G Midwest of Beaver, and the custom mixed "Mystic Mahogany" stain used to finish the timbers was made by Sherwin-Williams of Marinette. The long and wide beams and arches were hauled from Peshtigo by Westy's Trucking of Oconto.
The firm manufactures structural glued laminated timber beams, arches, trusses, bridge components, highway noise barriers, ship timbers and many other engineered timber products. It operates in Peshtigo at site of the original timber laminating plant in North America, established in 1934.
