Carl J. Bernetzke
Carl J. Bernetzke, 81, of Green Bay passed away unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 17 as a result of an automobile accident in Marinette County.
Born Aug. 17, 1935, to the late Paul and Lucy (Tilque) Bernetzke, he married Judith Ann Falevsky on Dec. 1, 1956 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Green Bay and they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
He served in the Army Reserves, worked at Morning Glory, Brown County Motors, Fort Howard Paper for 30 years, and most recently, Broadway/Ford Motors for 15 years.
In younger days, he raced on the dirt track circuit in De Pere, Shawano, and Luxemburg. He fixed cars and sold them to many neighbors and later repaired lawnmowers, snowblowers, chainsaws or anything with a small engine, with nothing he couldn't fix. He always lent a helping hand when needed, whether working on a car or whatever he could fix.
He enjoyed looking for deals at rummage sales, boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing on the bay, ice fishing, talking to the fisherman to see how they were doing, catching frogs and giving the grandchildren rides on the golf cart at the cottage on High Falls Flowage in the Crivitz area. He was proud that he waterskied twice at the age of 80. He was most proud of his family and loved them with all his heart.
He loved making firewood, was an expert at taking down trees and shared that knowledge, owned many chainsaws and said you can never own enough of them.
An outgoing, lovable man, he could converse with anyone and will be deeply missed by family and friends, leaving a hole in their world that no-one can fill.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; five children, Brian (Barb) Bernetzke, Dan (Janet) Bernetzke, Cheri (Todd) Perrault, Tracie (Todd) Patrickus and Sandy (Scott) Mansfield; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a baby girl due in March; a brother, Gerald (Judi) Bernetzke; a sister, Joyce (Gary) Olson; a sister-in law, Donna Piotrzkowski; his step-father, Francis Bougie and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a brother, Leo (Carol) Bernetzke; parents-in-law, Roland and Eva (Baeb) Falevsky; a brother-in-law, Don (Ruth) Falevsky and sisters-in-law, Joan (Norm) Roskom, Janice (Bob) Steeno and Hank Piotrzkowski.
Friends may call at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave., Green Bay on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 4 p.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 7 p.m. Blaney Funeral Home of Green Bay is assisting the family with arrangements. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
