Unit 66 To Host ALA Conference
The Athelstane/Silver Cliff American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 met at 10 AM on Saturday, March 4 at the Silver Cliff Town Hall. The meeting was called to order by President Dee Farley, and a guest was PJ Doering, and three first time meeting attendees, Britney Parma, Kellie Vander Zanden and Johanna Vander Zanden. Chaplain Lois Haase offered the opening prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble. Treasurer Priscilla Maeder gave her report which was filed for audit. The current paid membership is 64. Members can pay 2017 dues to Chair Farley or Treasurer Maeder.
Unit 66 is nearing the end of the I SPY Stars & Stripes Program. All businesses in the county displaying the American Flag are given a Certificate of Americanism. The number of certificates awarded will be sent in to be added to the total from Marinette County Units for their combined effort in the program.
The 2017 Unit 66 Revised By-Laws were handed out as well as a current list of Unit 66 Members. In other business discussed, it was agreed that Unit 66 Junior Members that apply for the $1000.00 scholarship will be given consideration over non-members. All applicants will be required to meet the same criteria however. Alee Aragon and Natalie Baldwin are the 2017 Badger Girl Stater delegates. A check was received for $39.52 for the pop can tabs saved by Judy Burkel. This money will be given to a Department Program for Homeless Female Vets of Marinette County. This is pending more information about the programs used locally.
Unit 66 will be sponsoring Entertainer Storyteller Christine Wildflower at the Iron Mountain VA Facility on March 27 at 1:30 PM. Each week members volunteer at the facility to help where needed.
The 9th District Spring Conference will be at the Woods, Crivitz, on April 29, with Unit 66 responsible for setting up the "Show & Tell" tables. Each unit will showcase what is unique to their unit. The Unit 66 will do a display about the Chili Fest and they will enter the District Poppy Hat Contest at the conference.
Chaplain Lois Haase offered a closing prayer for peace and the meeting was adjourned at 11 AM. A light lunch was served.
