Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 Has 65 Paid Members

The Athelstane/Silver Cliff American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 met at 10 AM on Saturday, April 1 at the Silver Cliff Town Hall. President Dee Farley presided and Chaplain Lois Haase offered the opening prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble. Treasurer Priscilla Maeder gave her report which was filed for audit. The current paid membership is 65. Members can pay 2017 dues to chairman Farley or Treasurer Maeder.

Members voted to increase the check for the pop cans tabs to $50 which was sent to the Marinette County Service Officer to be used for Homeless Female Veterans. Aluminum can tabs will continue to be collected for this fund. Two basket raffles member Nicki Aragon will put together. One will be used for Carla Jose Benefit on April 23 and the other for the 9th District Spring Conference at the Woods on April 29.

For the conference at the Woods on April 29, Unit 66 will set up the "Show & Tell" tables. Each unit will showcase what is unique to their unit. Unit 66 will do a display about the Chili Fest and other events. They are entering the District Poppy Hat contest and have 11 members going to the conference.

Four classes of the 2017 Poppy Poster Contest entries done by Wausaukee High School Students were judged. They were done very well and it was difficult to pick the best. There were other entries judged by different Units. The winning entries were sent to District Competition.

They are Class IV-Courtney Peterson; Class V-Alam Zamora; Class VI-Brielle Stapleford; and Class VII-Matthew Schleis.

At the May 6 meeting, officers will be elected. Those on the election slate are; President Dee Farley, Vice President Cassie Meyers, Treasurer Priscilla Maeder, and Secretary Karen Ladd. Other business for the May meeting will be to discuss the Memorial Day Picnic. Chaplain Lois Haase offered a closing prayer for peace. The meeting was adjourned at 11 AM. A light lunch was served.
