THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Mary "Joan" (Valliere) Witt, 85, known as Joan, passed away Sunday, April 9 in Foley, Al.
Born May 16, 1931 in New Hampshire, she spent most of her childhood in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. After graduation she moved to the Chicago area where she met and married her husband Jack Donald Witt Sr. and they were together over 50 years. They lived in Menasha for 40 years until retiring to their cottage in Crivitz on High Falls Flowage for several years before moving south.
A friend to everyone she met, she loved dogs and nature and was kind to all animals. She worked at the retail shop of Galloway Company in Neenah in the 1960s and later was employed at Presto Products in Appleton. In retirement, she trained and volunteered as a first responder on the Silver Cliff Rescue Squad in Marinette County.
She is survived by two children, Jerry (Cindi) Witt of Menasha and Jack Witt Jr. of Foley, Al.; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Witt of Bremerton, Wa.; a grandson; a granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons and many nieces.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Theodore John Witt; a sister, Chris LaLonde; a brother, Jack Valliere; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Oscar and Jean Witt and a nephew, Steven Witt.
A memorial and celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tommy's Corner Pub in Crivitz.
