Rain Washes Out Many Area Baseball Outings

The Coleman Cougars

Bag One Run Win


The Coleman Cougar baseball team had their hands full against the visiting Oconto Falls Panthers Saturday afternoon as they battled seven long innings before they were able to score the winning run.

That winning run came from Jake Steeno, who brought in a Coleman runner off a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh.

It was a tale of great pitching from both teams. For the Cougars Matt Osterberg dominated the mound with 15 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.

Maintain League Lead


The Coleman Cougars took a solid 11-1 win over the visit Wausaukee Rangers, ten run ruling them in the sixth for the early ending.

Coleman started the scoring with two runs during the second while Wausaukee answered with their only run of the night in the third. Coleman continued the steady climb to the winners seats with another run in the third, three in the fourth, another two in the fifth and three final runs in the sixth.

Crivitz Shellacks

The Crivitz Wolverines secured a 15-2 win over the visiting STAA/Lena Cavaliers Friday afternoon.

Crivitz got things rolling with a Jaden Werner walk and a Kershaw Stumbris RBI over the first. The second saw the Wolverines increase that lead thanks to a walk by Aaron Tormey. An RBI single by Charlie Johnsen and runs by Dawson Andrist and Jakob Voss to improve the lead to 5-0.

The Cavaliers got their first run of the night when Jack Farley singled to center and was brought home by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Zack Cops.

The third proved to be the the back breaker though as the Wolverines piled across six more runs, including a two RBI single from Tommy Sawinski.

Simon Gard scored on final run for the Cavs.

Johnsen took the mound win for the Wolverines with seven strikeouts. He allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk.

Cops took the loss with one strikeout on the day. He gave up four hits and 11 runs (seven earned) while walking six.

At the plate Sawinski was two of three with one run and two RBIs. Vinnie Jopek was one of two with in run and an RBI.

Farley led the Cavs plate effort with two hits off three at bats while getting one run. Cops was one of two with an RBI.

Peshtigo Clipped

by Sturgeon Bay


Saturday morning the Peshtigo Bulldogs took to the road to take on the Sturgeon Bay Clippers in a non-conference matchup. A six-run first inning for the Clippers helped lead them to a 9-4 victory over the Bulldogs.

Sturgeon Bay piled up six runs in the bottom half of the first as a walk and five consecutive hits allowed the first six batters to reach base and score for the Clippers. The Packerland's top team added two runs in the second and another in the third.

Peshtigo did their damage in the third inning. Riley Reif's one-out single got the Bulldogs rolling as Tyler Hess followed with a single of his own. Nick Nielson reached on an error to load the bases and Gavin Brissette recorded an RBI on a groundout. Ryley Demmith connected on a two-out, two-RBI single. Demmith later scored on a single.

In the contest, Peshtigo's Brock Bero suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on five hits and a walk. Tyler Hess's 2-for-3 day included a double to lead the Bulldogs, Darren Dionne and Trevor Bloch each went 2-for-4 as well.



Bulldogs Get

Revenge on Badgers


After suffering an 11-0 defeat in just five innings earlier this season, the Peshtigo Bulldogs sought revenge as they traveled to take on the Niagara Badgers Friday. Defense and pitching were the name of the game as runs were hard to come by for both teams. A complete game gem by Peshtigo's Gavin Brissette helped set the table for a 2-1 Bulldog win.

Niagara struck first in the bottom of the second inning as Dylan Neuens singled to start the inning. After Neuens stole second base, Anthony Hansen sacrificed himself to get Neuens to third base with one out. Jacob Bousley then reached safely via an error, the error allowed Neuens to score giving Niagara a 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs answered back in the top of the third inning. Cole Tackmier began the inning by reaching first on an error. Tackmier stole second base and got to third on a passed ball. Riley Reif reached on an error that plated Tackmier to knot the game at 1-1.

Holding the game at 1-1, Peshtigo answered again in the top of the fifth. Tackmier reached third base again with just one out. Nick Nielson's ground ball to third base allowed him to reach base, but caught Tackmier in a pickle between third and home, in which he was tagged out at home plate. During the play, Nielson moved up to second base. Justin Fischer laced a hard-hit ground ball to short stop that coaxed an error, which allowed Nielson to score the go-ahead run, 2-1 Peshtigo. The Bulldogs' defense and pitching shut the Badgers down the rest of the way to hang on for the win.

Gavin Brissette pitched a complete game, allowing one unearned run on four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts for Peshtigo. Jacob Bousley of the Badgers was saddled with the loss as he allowed one unearned run on one hit and three strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings pitched.

Cole Tackmier, Riley Reif and Tyler Hess recorded a hit for the Bulldogs and Dylan Neuens led the Badgers with a 2-for-3 day.
