Kenneth W. Brehmer, 86, of Abrams, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 surrounded by family at Oscar Johnson VA Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.
Born April 9, 1931 in Abrams, to the late Carl and Mildred (Vanden Bush) Brehmer, he married Ruth Kucik on July 24, 1954 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2015. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and received a Purple Heart in 1950. He worked at Paper Converting Machine Corp for 24 years and Milwaukee Electric Tool for 12 years, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, making maple syrup and woodworking, making things for his grandchildren. A member of Riverview Alliance Church in Oconto Falls, he belonged to Stiles American Legion, V.F.W. and DAV.
He is survived by five children, Daniel (Frances) Brehmer, Donna (Carl) Asplund, Doreen (Ronald) Ripley, Darell (Carol) Brehmer and Dawn (Terry) Herlache; three sisters, Vi (Bill) Vincent, Joyce Hopfensberger and Carol (Marv) Smits; a brother, David (Rosie) Brehmer; two sisters-in-law, Gerri Brehmer and Betty Brehmer; a brother-in-law, Roger Schmitt; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hank, Wesley and Roger Brehmer and two sisters, Ann Schmitt and Viola McGovern.
Family will receive relatives and friends at Riverview Alliance Church in Oconto Falls on Thursday, June 1 from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Kevin Kuhn will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites. Gallagher Funeral Home of Oconto is assisting the family with arrangements.
