Coleman Legion Post Plans to Sell BuildingIssue Date: August 9, 2017
The Kalbes-Seewald American Legion Post #280 is looking to sell its building in Coleman, Village President Glenn Woulf announced at the Monday, Aug. 7 village board meeting.
Woulf said he recently was approached by Legion members who told him they were looking to sell their building, at 107 Zelia Street. While the Legion felt it could potentially be a good location for a museum, Woulf was unsure if this was a feasible option at this time because the village is "right to the limit of what we can spend money on."
"Everybody is getting old and the old ones are dying off that ran it," Woulf said of the Legion's reasoning for looking to sell the building. "They don't have enough people to come and have meetings."
However, Woulf also noted that an M114 command and reconnaissance carrier that currently sits outside of the Legion building and serves as a World War II memorial would be preserved even if the Legion does end up selling the building.
In the monthly police department report, Chief Ida Soletske stated there were 10 complaints in July and seven adult citations issued totaling $994. There also were 15 adults cases heard in court during the month.
The fire department responded to one call during July and one mutual aid call for a Pound-Brazeau fire, bringing the total calls for the year to 19. The fire department expressed thanks to the Village Board, employees and the public for their support of their picnic.
In his monthly report, building inspector Dennis Gross detailed contacts made during the monty. On July 1, owner contacted about property condition; July 10, owner contacted about their lawn; July 11, rental owners contacted about their yards; July 13, a meeting with the United Cooperative about rezoning issues; and July 25, a phone conversation with a property owner about splitting their parcel and rezoning it.
The treasurer's report stated that receipts for July totaled $115,822.16 while disbursements were $95,847.47, a difference of $19,974.69. Total cash on hand at the end of July was $417,983.78, up from $409,829.55 at the end of June.
Four building permits were approved in July. They were to the United Cooperative at 123 MacArthur Drive for a new warehouse with offices totaling $849,000; to Rick Shevy at 214 Linda Lane for a house remodel totaling $10,000; to Gina Mongin at 549 Business 141 North for a new garage roof for $6,000; and Houska Rental at 232 East Main Street for new siding for cost of $10,000.
A Zoning & Planning Commission meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. The next regular village board meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 5 (on Tuesday instead of Monday due to Labor Day) at 6 p.m.
