Marines Top Bulldogs
Marinette beat Peshtigo on Tuesday to end the Bulldogs' two-game winning streak. Jones scored two goals for the Bulldogs, who fell to the Marines 4-2.
Jones started the scoring on a pass from Omer Farghali for a breakaway goal at 41:27 of the first half. Marinette's Kody Schreiner scored on a feed from Brady McVane at the 29:49 mark to knot the game at 1-1. The Marines took the lead on a rebound goal by Alex Shaw and the score remained 2-1 Marinette at the half. Marinette pushed the lead to 3-1 early in the second half. A high-arcing shot by Jake Anderson went off the hands of Peshtigo goalie Nate Goneau and fell into the net. Jones brought the Bulldogs to within one, scoring off a deflection with 15:24 remaining in the contest. The Marines added an insurance goal with 5:23 remaining.
Schreiner kicked in the rebound off a Joe Swiatnicki shot to make the final score 4-2 in the Marines' favor.
Bulldogs Run Away from N.E.W.
The Peshtigo soccer team had a promising start to the season, opening with wins over Antigo and N.E.W. Lutheran, before dropping a game Tuesday, Aug. 29 to rivals Marinette.
Against N.E.W. Lutheran, the Bulldogs' first conference opponent, the Bulldogs ran away with a 7-1 victory behind a hat-trick from Senior Cameron Barrette. Junior Damon Jones added two more goals and an assist. Freshman Omer Fargahali added two goals of his own to help the cause.
Freshman Ryan VanVooren added an assist, while Junior Cade Tackmier had two and junior Tye Davis had one.
Junior goalkeeper Nate Goneau had a good night, Peshtigo Head Coach Joe Denny said.
"We were up at half 2-1 and every player on the team did a great job filling positions and contributing to the defensive hold and offensive attack in the second half," Denny said.
