THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Robert "Bob" Hammerberg, 79, of Carney, Mi., passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at home.
Born June 26, 1938 in Escanaba, Mi., to the late Samuel and Marie (Holmstrom) Hammerberg, he married Joanne Gustafson at Carney Evangelical Free Church on July 7, 1962. He was a truck driver and drove for many companies including Cedar River Lumber and Wendricks Truss.
A member of Carney Evangelical Free Church, he loved camping, snowmobiling, hunting, riding or driving anything with four wheels, stock car races, sight seeing, burning food on the grill, going on a cruise and riding motorcycle, but mostly being with family and time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; two daughters, Sherry (Rocky) Ryan and Mary (Dan Neece) Hammerberg, both of Carney; a son, John (Chris) Hammerberg of California; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Elaine (Ken) Gustafson; two brothers, Harlan (Linda) and Ragner Hammerberg; two sisters-in-law, Barb Gustafson and Leona (Pat) Matthews; and two brothers-in-law, Clayton Gustafson and Wesley Gustafson.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Nancy Gustafson and a brother-in-law, Eugene Gustafson.
Family will welcome friends at Carney Free Church on Friday, Sept. 8 from 2 p.m. until time of Military Honors at 3:45 p.m. presented by the Carney American Legion, followed by a Memorial Service at 4 p.m. Pastor Kit Bogan will officiate with burial in the Carney Free Church Cemetery. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home of Stephenson is assisting the family with arrangements.
