Meyer is Acting Unit Chaplain
The Athelstane/Silver Cliff American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66 meeting on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Silver Cliff Memorial Park was called to order by President Dee Farley. Acting Chaplain Sherry Woger offered the opening prayer and Treasurer Priscilla Maeder sent in a report to be read. Secretary Mary Deprey gave her report from the August meeting and reports were accepted as read. Unit 66 Treasurer Priscilla Maeder and Unit Member Carrie Willems are preparing the 2018 budget for presentation in October.
A request was received from the Silver Cliff Park Committee to cover the cost of a luncheon for the park workers. This will be discussed further at a later date. In other business, Jan Meyer volunteered to be the Acting Chaplain until elections in May.
Wausaukee High School requested a visit from American Legion Post 66 Veterans to do a presentation as a Kick-Off for the 2018 Poppy Poster Contest. More details will be announced. Two Wausaukee students won 1st place in the American Legion Auxiliary 2017 National Poppy Poster Competition in Reno, Nev. in August.
On Sept. 23 is the annual Chili Fest and members are asked to make a dessert or other sale item for the Country Store Bake Sale. All proceeds go to the Children's Miracle Network. Anyone wishing to volunteer to work should contact Post Commander Duaine Coenen at 920-850-4286 or Unit President Dee Farley at 715-757-3922.
Upcoming events are Sept. 22-clean-up park, prepare desserts; Sept. 23-set-up chili fest at 9 AM, and Chili Fest at Silver Cliff Park - 11 AM to 4 PM.
