Roger Eugene Folkerts, 77, of Cecil, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 in Shawano.
Born June 21, 1940 in Rockford, Ill., to the late Eilert and Helen (Olson) Folkerts, he served in the United States Air Force and worked as a cryptographer for 11 years. On Dec. 19, 1959, he married Donna Peterson in Rockford and she preceded him in death on May 28, 1985. On Aug. 2, 1986, he married Cheryl (Vonckx) Garrity at Legend Lake and worked at Dental Health Products of New Franken, retiring seven years ago.
A hard worker, he offered an opinion when needed, enjoyed fishing, watching golf, the Packers and Brewers and family get-togethers.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; six children, Shelley (Allen) Kamps of Shawano, Mike Folkerts of St. Paul, Mn., Chris Garrity of Marinette, Colleen Garrity of Platteville, Sean (Shae) Garrity of Washington and Brian (Becky) Folkerts of Pleasant Prairie; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandy (Lee) Hudgin of Loves Park, Ill.; three brothers-in-law, Mike (Jan) Borota of Machesney Park, Ill., Gary Peterson of Rockford, Ill. and Joe (Kathy) Vonckx; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Talbott of Rockford, Ill. and Pam (Jim) Girtz of Green Bay and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna; a son, Donald Folkerts; a daughter-in-law, Pati Folkerts; a brother, Denzel Folkerts and a sister, Judy Borota.
Visitation was held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Valley on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m., with Pastor Bill Gruenstern officiating. Military honors were conducted by the Bonduel American Legion Post #217, with burial in the church cemetery. Swedberg Funeral Home of Shawano assisted the family with arrangements.
