Harold E. Salzman, 89, of Marinette, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.
Born Aug. 21, 1928 in Marinette, to Frank and Jenny (Christeck) Salzman, he spent his early life on the family farm on Miles Road in Porterfield and graduated from Marinette High School. He served in the United States Navy for two years before returning to the area. He married the former Amelia Catherine Stichart on May 14, 1949 and they were married for nearly 60 years until her passing on Feb. 6, 2009.
He worked at L.E. Jones before moving to Fond du Lac in 1957 where he was employed at Giddings and Lewis until 1975 when they returned to Marinette and he worked as a foreman at Emerson Electric until retirement.
A lifelong outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed working in the woods, cutting timber and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by seven children, Sheryll (Russell) Grothe, Edward (Debbie Derber), Catherine (Ron Hallbach) Moon, Daniel (Kay), Heide (Dan Draves) Salzman, Nathan (Patty) and Christina (Vincent) Bournonville; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a brother, Robert Salzman.
In addition to his parents and wife, Amelia, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a daughter, Cynthia; a brother, Clarence and two sisters, Joyce and Doris.
A private family Memorial Service was held. Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home of Marinette assisted the family.
