Issue Date: September 27, 2017

To the Editor:

Thank you Crivitz American Legion Post 413 for the Trap and .22 Shoot fundraiser held on Labor Day weekend.

It is a shame that after 60+ years at the same location, Shaffer's asked you to vacate the property so they can sell the land. It is also too bad they wouldn't accept your offer to purchase the small parcel of land that was only used by Post 413.

There were some great memories from the Trap and .22 shoot held there over the years. But new memories will be made starting with the 2018 Memorial Weekend shoot to be held at the Lake Noqueby Sportsman's Club. You can bet participants from Waukesha and Washington Counties will return.

Most important, thank you to our veterans, especially Post 413 for your service.

You make us proud to be Americans.

MarySusan Diedrich

Letter to Editor:

Wisconsin School Board Appreciation Week is Oct. 1st-9th.

On behalf of the Peshtigo School District, we ask the students, parents, and the constituency of the Peshtigo area, to join the State of Wisconsin in saluting its local school board members.

Wisconsin School Board Appreciation Week is designed to recognize the contributions made by Wisconsin school board members, including the Peshtigo School District's School Board, who are charged with governing public education under state law.

School board members are chosen by their communities to lead local schools. They oversee multi-million dollars budgets which fund a vast array of educational programs, along with extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities which develop the life skills necessary for students to be successful in adulthood.

These volunteer leaders are responsible for formulating school district policy, approving curricula, planning and maintaining school facilities, and adhering to state and federal law. Legal concerns and the complexities of school finance, including budgeting and taxation, require them to spend many hours in board training programs and personal study to enhance their understanding of these issues.

Our deepest appreciation is extended to the dedicated men and women who make it possible for local citizens to participate in education in our community. Let's salute the public servants of the Peshtigo School Board whose commitment and civic responsibility make local control of public schools in our community possible: Steve Coble, Mike Fifarek, Tom Fischer, Cory Hess, Kelly Jones, Gary Larsen, Julie Muenster, Jenni Schwittay and Bob Thomas.

Respectfully,

Kim Eparvier,

District Administrator,

Peshtigo School District

Editor:

Having been a football fan since I was a young lad many decades ago, I am disgusted and saddened by the recent politicization of the sport by players, the NFL, sports networks such as ESPN and now the President. The fans, such as I, have provided the sport with the billions necessary to propel it the its present status through their game attendance, sports paraphernalia purchases and TV viewing. New stadiums are routinely built, many with the contribution of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, in order to further its popularity and accessibility to additional fans.

If millionaire players wish to kneel, sit or otherwise disrespect the National Anthem that is their right. But as a fan it is my right to forgo the pleasure of my sideline participation by curtailing my spending and watching. Until this current "politics of correctness" is ended, my small contribution will also end. When enough fans take the attitude that they have had it also, by refusing to support the NFL teams and players through local taxpayer contributions to new stadiums and ticket purchases, the message will be loud and clear.

By joining the fray with his childish tweets the President has once again demonstrated his willingness to stoop to the level of buffoonery to make a point which the fan base of the NFL has long ago recognized, and rather than making a positive contribution to the situation has only served to further politicize it. Professional football is entertainment, not a platform for political posturing, and a return to that principle cannot occur fast enough!

Dave Kipp,

Wausaukee

Letter to Editor:

Thank you Michelle, and everyone at Merrill Distributing, for all your hard work and support in sponsoring the Brat Fry Fundraiser benefiting the Wausaukee Back to School Program. The weather was beautiful, the food was excellent and the community and tourist support was astounding!

Thank you to everyone who donated food or supplies, to all who came and purchased and enjoyed the delicious food and everyone who worked so hard to make this event an awesome success. The Wausaukee Back to School Program organization truly appreciates all the planning and effort put into this event.

A huge "thank you" to all of you - not only from our organization; but also the needy Wausaukee School District students we are able to serve.

Sue Schmidt,

On Behalf of the

Wausaukee Back to School Program
