Claire J. (Gilson) Wagner, 88, of Marinette, formerly of Manitowoc, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.
Born April 14, 1929 in Algoma, to the late Austin and Nora (LeCloux) Gilson, she graduated from Algoma High School in 1947. On Nov. 8, 1947, she married Jerome J. Wagner, Sr. in Algoma and he preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1977. She lived in Marshfield from 1948 to 1952, Manitowoc from 1952 to 1973 and Marinette from 1973 until August of 2017 before returning to Manitowoc at Laurel Grove Assisted Living.
A housewife, like many women at that time, she did it all, was a good cook and baker, sewed clothing, painted and did yard-work.
In 1977, after the death of her husband, she worked for Lauerman's Store in Marinette, managing the shoe department. After the store closed, she then worked at PJ's Hallmark Store as a clerk and then store manager until retiring.
She liked to dance, was an avid reader and loved playing baseball darts on Sunday afternoons. Her best times in later years were with her dartball teammates and her buddy, Darryl Gannigan.
She is survived by two children, Gail Terry and Jerome "Jerry" (Barb) Wagner, Jr., all of Manitowoc; two grandsons Keith (Kelly) Terry and Jason (Krystle) Terry; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Barb Koch, Marinette and other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Herbert "Cookie" Koch; her husband, Jerome; two brothers, Douglas Koch and his infant twin; sister and brother-in-law, Laurabelle and Don Ross; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Family will greet relatives and friends at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2735 Taylor Street in Marinette on Saturday, Nov. 11 from noon until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., celebrated by Rev. Celestine Byekwaso. Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.
