Christmas in Marinette Event on December 2ndIssue Date: November 15, 2017 "Christmas In Marinette" holiday season begins on Saturday, Dec. 2. The City of Marinette, Marinette Welcome Center, Marinette Fire Department, Bay Cities Multi-Media Center, Stephenson Public Library, and Santa Claus, are again coordinators.
Area businesses, non-profits, churches, youth groups, schools, and any others are encouraged to "Adopt-A-Tree" on Stephenson Island to give a festive glow during the holidays. There is no fee to participate and decorating should be done the week of Nov. 19-30. All identified trees will be assigned on a first-come, first serve basis and can be marked ahead of time. Stakes for identification are available at the Marinette Welcome Center from 9 am-3 pm weekdays. Trees should be registered to be entered in the competition for the Best Over All Decoration. A traveling trophy will again be awarded to the winners and judging will take place by members of the City Council, the Mayor and Santa following the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 2.
The Holiday Craft Sale will take place at the Marinette Middle School from 9 am - 4 pm. There will be vendors, Booster Club food sale and entertainment provided by the Middle School students during the day. Information regarding space and cost should be directed to stephanie@baycitiesonline.com, event coordinator. Only a few spaces remain.
The Marinette Fire Department on 1450 Main Street will host an open house from 11 am-12:30 pm. There will be refreshments and treats for the children, a chance to meet the fire fighters, and tours of the station will be available. Santa will "drop by" just prior to the start of the parade so that he can get placed in the fire truck.
The annual Christmas Parade begins at 1 pm, assemble at Main and Water Streets at noon and proceed down Main Street to Liberty Street. Floats, walkers and musical participants will be entered in the free competition for the "Best Over-All Entry" with a traveling trophy. Entry forms are available at City Hall or at the Marinette Welcome Center, 1680 Bridge St. The intent of the Marinette Christmas Parade is for participants, of all ages, to have fun. Themes conveyed by each entry should by understandable by children and appropriate for them. Handing out candy or objects is permitted by walkers only. No duplication of Santa is permitted. Contact Jan at City Hall 715-732-5139 for entry information.
Santa will be the last entry in the parade and will continue down to the Stephenson Public Library for an afternoon of visiting, photographing and reading to the children, with his specially assigned Elf Shelley. Librarians will assist the children at a Holiday Craft Table with a specially chosen theme. Refreshments will be served by "Friends of The Library" and entertainment provided by First Street Academy of Dance. This event will go from 2 pm to 4 pm. Santa will have a special "goodie bag" for all of the children.
The Marinette Welcome Center will also host a "Holiday Open House" from 2 to 4 pm. Businesses have donated prizes and visitors will be entered in a chance to win one of the many door prizes. Refreshments will be provided and served by members of the Marinette Woman's Club. Live music will entertain during the afternoon by the popular members of the "Senior Moments Band" of Bob Grager and friends.
At approximately 4:30 pm, Santa, Mrs. Claus, Elf Shelley and Mayor Genisot will walk across the Stephenson Island foot bridge to "light" up the Island for the Christmas Season. The Salvation Army, with Major Carol and/or Ron Lemirand will present the "first" bell of Christmas and distribute miniature bells to the children so that they may be rung. Carolers and any other choirs, church or youth groups are invited to lead the singing during the short ceremony. Culligan will provide hot chocolate.
