Gail Eldon Bowers "Eldon", 73, of Daggett, Mi., passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at home after a long battle with cancer.
Born March 27, 1944 in Menominee, Mi., to the late Gail and Ada Marie (Sharpe) Bowers, he graduated from Stephenson High School and Michigan State University with a Bachelors Degree in Dairy Science. In his youth, he was an active 4-H member and enjoyed going to camp, watching NASCAR, football and all MSU sports.
On Dec. 27, 1969, he married Carolyn Gayon at Stephenson United Methodist Church and worked for MSU as Extension Director in Luce and Barry County, then as Field Representative for Frigo Cheese Company before changing careers and becoming an over the road truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Daggett, Mi.; three sons, Steven (Janine) of Kewaunee, Kevin (Pamela) of Menominee and Major Jason (Kristine) of Omaha, Ne.; nine grandchildren; a brother Dennis Bowers; a sister, Susan Berg; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Ray Senger and Carolyn's siblings, Darlene Gayon, Dar (Jack) Thielke, Karen Gayon, Kathy Gayon, Don (Donna) Gayon, Jean (Tim Phillips) Gayon, Connie (Gilbert) Anderson and Kathy (Garth) Newlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers-in-law, Gerald Berg, Francis Gayon, Raymond Gayon and Floyd Gayon; a sister-in-law, Susan Maus and a nephew, Steven Berg.
Visitation will be held at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 4 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 6 p.m., with Roy Berto officiating. Burial will be in Stephenson Township Cemetery in the Spring. Donations can be made to the local 4-H Club or directed to Carolyn Bowers.
