Crivitz Public Works & Utilities Discuss Recycling
Issue Date: February 21, 2018
During the Village of Crivitz Public Works & Utilities Committee meeting held on Feb. 15, discussion took place regarding the Northwoods Recycling Coalition, Crivitz future recycling activities and needs, and Crivitz Compost site. Village President and committee member John Deshane stated that due to the Coalition's decision to dis-continue its services, the committee will seek the best way to service the recycling needs of the community which will be economical as well as convenient.
The committee is looking into a few options, one being discussed is the possibility of a "curb side pickup" within the village. A decision will be made at a later date after more research is compiled, and the entire board has opportunity for discussion.
Discussion also took place regarding the Crivitz Compost Site. Deshane suggested at the very least the site should be closed to all other municipalities other than Crivitz residents. One option of controlling who will have access to the site could be to install motion censored cameras which will provide photos of license plates. Also, the placement of signage was suggested in order to give clear indicators regarding who is able to access the site. It was suggested that the site will need to be cleared of weeds at the cost of the Coalition. Committee member Stewart Swanson stated that it is unfortunate for all these small municipalities to be forced into duplicating these services. Staff hours and costs will be a factor in the decision.
