St. Thomas Aquinas 36th Annual Auction Includes JFK Memorabilia
Issue Date: March 16, 2018
St. Thomas Aquinas Academy's 36th Annual Auction will take place Sunday, March 18th in the High School gym. This is the largest fundraiser each year for the Academy and is open to the public.
"We have had a great response from our supporters this year and have received many donations, especially for the Oral auction segments, " says Kathy Denby, this year's coordinator. "We have several trips this year, including ones to Florida, Cancun, Argentina, Door County, and the Blue Harbor Resort. There are several party packages, a Samsung washer and dryer, and Packer tickets, pre Season and regular season."
The Mini and Big Bucket raffles will are full of exciting items include a custom fishing rod, a Yeti Tundra 75 cooler, a ladies basket with diamond earrings, handmade quilts, Packer collectibles and a money tree.
"I think that one of the most unique items we have this year is what is being called "The Kennedy Door", says Denby. "The legend of the Kennedy bathroom visit has been around for generations. The story goes that when John F. Kennedy came to speak at Marinette Catholic Central High School on a campaign stop in the spring of 1960, Mr. Kennedy asked to use a restroom. Well, the priests did not want him to use the boy's restroom which is the same one as in the hallway now, so they whisked him over to the rectory (which was behind the school) to use the restroom there. When the building was removed last fall, this piece of history and several other items were salvaged. This is the door to that bathroom, and if you are the lucky bidder, you will own a piece of Presidential history."
A Spring Raffle sponsored by Catholic Financial Life is being held in conjunction with the Auction. Raffle tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100 and all proceeds will benefit the Tuition Assistance fund. The first prize is $1000, second prize is $500, and third prize is $250. All prizes will be awarded by check to the lucky winners. The drawing will be held at the end of the 2nd live auction segment. The winners do not have to be present to win.
This event is the Academy's largest fundraiser each year. The proceeds from the Auction support a variety of program needs as well as tuition assistance. This year, the Academy are grateful to the Estelle Corry Trust for pledging to match funds generated at the Auction to help the school with improvements to classrooms and technology.
