Ted Rydell Sr., age 98, passed away on March 18, 2018 at Rennes Health Center East, Peshtigo.
Ted was born on the Rydell family farm in Pound. In 1945 he married Carole Toutloff of Menominee, Michigan. They had three children, Ted Jr., William (Bill) and Laurie.
Ted and Carole took over the family farm, where they grew crops, milked cows and raised beef cattle, sheep and chickens. They marketed produce and kosher chickens to several businesses in the Marinette and Menominee areas. In the early years on the farm, they plowed fields with a team of horses.
Ted was a lifelong organic gardener. He took great pride in his farmer's market, selling sweet corn and other organic vegetables to White Potato Lake vacationers.
Ted enjoyed fishing and hunting on the family farm and playing pinochle and smear with friends and family. He was a member of the Beaver Men's Club, Klondike Sportsmen's Club and Shaeffer's bowling team. He traveled to California, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Canada, Wales and England.
Ted had a quick wit and great sense of humor. He was always friendly and keen to engage in conversation with just about anybody. He was a beloved father, grandfather and good friend to many people through the years.
He is survived by sons, Ted Jr. (Linda), Bill (Wendy) and daughter Laurie Techmeier (Stan); a sister, Edith Kause; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Carole; parents, Henry and Esther Rydell; brother, Arthur Rydell; a sister, Florence Graetz; a special friend, Marvin Buschman and numerous close friends, including fishing buddies, Gust Mursau, Tony Rabas and beloved father-in-law, Bill Toutloff.
