Local Track & Field Teams Wrap Up Indoor Season

Issue Date: March 29, 2018

Panthers Win Eight Events,

Lead Field at Home Invite

Oconto Falls hosted Peshtigo, Crivitz, Coleman and Algoma in an indoor meet on Tuesday, winning both the boys and girls events.

Peshtigo's girls were in Oshkosh and the Bulldogs raced their underclassmen in most events.

The Peshtigo boys finished the night with 40 points and three event winners.

Jerod Jandt won the long jump (18'9.25"). Crivitz's Tony Jopek took second (18'4.25"), while Peshtigo's Austin Liske was third (17'4.75"), Jaden Bemis of Crivitz was fourth (16'10") and Peshtigo's Seth Davis was fifth (15'7.5").

Jandt will compete in sprints and relays this season, something he's been focusing on in practice more than the long jump. Bulldogs Coach Keith Nault praised the work that Jandt has put in despite the lack of time he's been able to put into the event.

"He's going to have a great year," Nault said. "Jerod's a strong, strong kid. He works really hard in the offseason as well."

Max Rauch had the whole gym's attention as he hit 12'9" on the high jump, more than a foot and a half higher than the second-place finisher.

"He's starting off really strong," Nault said. "You can see that his comfort level is coming up with his repetitions. The more he jumps, the better he's going to get. Fundamentally, he's solid, but the more he reps he gets under his belt, he's going to get better and better."

Jopek was second with 11'0", Crivitz's Michael Retza was third (11'0"), Wolverine Cody Richlen took fourth (10') and Oconto Falls' Aaron Ludemann was fifth (9').

Bulldogs junior Mitchell VanVooren also won the 50-yard hurdles with a time of 6.97 seconds. Crivitz's Eli Lawrence was second (7.10) and Brent Wolf was third (7.18) for the home team.

Wolf didn't win the hurdles, but he got two wins in the triple jump (37'.75") and high jump (5'6"). Peshtigo's Joe Sodini was second in both events, jumping 36'10" in the long jump and 5'6" in the high jump.

Nault said the meet gave a good opportunity for some underclassmen to showcase their skills in front of the coaches and get some race experience.

"This was a good meet to put our underclassmen out there and let them compete to break up the monotony of practice for them. That was their chance to jump under the microscope a little bit and be seen by the coaching staff," he said. "They enjoyed it, and it'll be motivation for the practices from here too because they got a taste of competition. I think it'll be a good feel for them."

Nault also said he was impressed by what he saw from the newcomers as well.

"We're going to have a really well-rounded team in the future," he said. "I see a lot of people that are going to contribute in the sprints, jumps and distance. I'm really happy about that."

Oconto Falls won the meet with seven event victories including Wolf's two.

Dakota Carriveau won the shot put (38'65"). Crivitz's Hunter Wittmus took second (37'5.5") and Zach Larsen was third (37').

Oconto Falls' Noah Ludemann won the 800-meter run (2:19.79), beating out Coleman's Miles Kremsreiter (2:22.11) and Panther teammate Brody Schindel (2:36.10).

Crivitz won the four-lap relay (512 meters) in 1:08.72, beating Oconto Falls by just .02 seconds.

The Wolverines' Kody Richlen won the 45-yard dash with a time of 5.51. Aaron Gonnering of Oconto Falls took second (5.53), Keeshawn Katers was third (5.56) and Stary was fourth (5.6).

Ezekial Lawrence won the 200-meter dash (26.96), while teammate Tony Jopek was third (27.10) and Panther Aaron Gonnering took second (26.99).

Coleman's lone win came from Kremsreiter, who trailed going into the final lap of the 1600-meter run, but turned on the jets to pass Brody Schindel and finish in 5:11.08. Schindel finished in 5:11.30. Brendan Konitzer was third (5:36.76).

The Panther girls also won the home meet and eight events to boot.
