Elizabeth "Liz" A. (Daly) Stewart, 87, of Vulcan, Mi., passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at Pine Crest in Powers.
Born March 28, 1931 in Detroit, to the late John and Emily (Lahti) Daly, she graduated from Calumet High School in 1948 and earned a major in English from Northwestern University in 1952. She married Donald Stewart on Nov. 20, 1954 at First Presbyterian Church in Menominee and worked as the food editor at the Menominee Herald-Leader for several years and later as the head librarian at Kirkland College in Clinton, NY for five years.
A member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, she served as chairman of the approach and departure committee for over 15 years, was an accomplished pilot and had her own airplane.
In January of 1968, she was a contestant on Jeopardy and won money as the second runner up. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, needlework, photography, cooking, traveling and at age 55, she and a friend white water rafted and then hiked out of the Grand Canyon.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Don; a son, Bill (Marla) Stewart of Phoenixville, Pa.; two daughters, Lisa (Bruce) Skjerping of Wayzata, Mn. and Carrie (Mark) Davis of Imperial, Pa.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild on the way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John.
A Memorial Service will be held in Summer. Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home of Menominee is assisting the family.
