Lisa M. (Kaatz) Becker, 67, of Eagle River, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018, with family and dear friends at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 28, 1951 in Athelstane, to Aron and Ester Kaatz, she married Curtis Becker on Oct. 22, 1982 and earned a Masters degree in Social Work at UW-Milwaukee. She worked at Eagle River Memorial Ascension Hospital for over 22 years and prior to that at Howard Young, Woodruff and Northwood's Medical Center in Phelps.
She helped develop and run the palliative care program at Eagle River and St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander and worked with the hospital to provide advanced directive training to the community. She did all of the hospital discharge planning and was a patient advocate. She had a large part in the community CARE program and was instrumental in organizing ABIDERS, a program that linked volunteers with those who might otherwise die alone.
She served St. Peter the Fisherman Church as a Eucharistic minister, engaged in Parish Outreach, visited the home bound, cared for the flowers and dedicated most of her adult life serving and caring for others with joy in her heart.
She loved life in the Wisconsin Northwoods where she enjoyed the season changes, starlit nights and memorable sunsets. She had a passion for gardening and a true love for her husband, Curt. Her pets brought her comfort throughout her challenging journey and she valued the time she was given.
She is survived by her husband, Curt; a sister, Amber Ellstrom of Eagle River; special friend, Cate Wilson; other relatives; many friends; the Sisters at Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center and her FSPA Affiliate Franciscan Community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kate Louise.
