Gordon A. Newlin, 92, lifelong resident of Wallace, Mi., passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Christus Health Center in Tyler, Tx., while wintering there.
Born Oct. 17, 1925 in Wallace, to the late Arthur and Alma (Anderson) Newlin, he married Evelyn Peterson in Wallace on July 12, 1952 and they were together for over 65 years. He worked at Scott Paper for 33 years, where he was supervisor of the instrument department until retiring in 1981.
A founding member of Country Bible Church in Wallace, he was known for his faith in the Lord and Savior, having a servant's heart and was willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
He enjoyed traveling and visited 48 states, but mostly loved time with family, especially carrying his grandbabies and great grandbabies.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of 65 years; three daughters, Marilee (Ed) Jensen of Green Bay, Marvel Johnson of Anderson, Ind. and Marlene (Jim) Dewar of Bancroft, Ia.; six sons, Stuart (Sherry) of Longview, Tx., Jeremy (Angela) and Marlin, both of Kilgore, Tx. Jay (Tracy) of Diana, Tx. and Robin (Jenny) and Kevin (Sherry), both of Wallace; 39 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Rye of Wallace, Mi., Avis Jensen of Escanaba, Mi. and Betty (John) LaPoint of Manistique, Mi. and four brothers, Warren (Clara) and Jerry (Milly), both of Wallace, Marvin (Shirley) of Chico, Ca. and Ronald (Ingrid) of Saukville.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ferris; a brother, Norman and a sister, Ethel "Sis" Bergquist.
Family and friends may call at Country Bible Church on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Pastor David Buckley will officiate followed by burial in Mellen Township Cemetery. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home of Stephenson is assisting the family with arrangements.
