Sister Lucy Edelbeck, O.P., 95, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine on Thursday April 19, 2018.
Eleanore Christine was born October 18, 1922 to Anton J. and Caroline (nee: DeGroot) Edelbeck in Wausaukee, WI. On August 29, 1939 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1940 she was given the religious name Sister Lucy. She professed her first vows in 1942 and her final vows in 1948.
Sister Lucy spent many years in service to others in teaching in grade schools, high schools and colleges followed by ministry with to young adults and women. For many years she had a greeting card ministry. In August 2013 she moved to Siena Center, Racine. In April 2018 she became a resident at Lakeshore Manor.
Sister Lucy is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sisters Betty Novak and Rose (Ernie) Ryczek; sister-in-law Bette Ann Edelbeck and brother-in-law Robert (Sarge) Dessart; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers Bernard, Fred, Harold, Dick and Edward and sisters Celia Edelbeck, Theresa Dessart, Catherine DeLaet and Sister Eleanore Edelbeck O.P.
A Memorial Service will be in the Siena Center Chapel, 5635 Erie St., Racine, on Thursday April 26 at 10:00 a.m. Interment took place at Our Lady of the Oaks Cemetery, Pewaukee, WI. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
