Leonard F. Wirkus, 98, of Gillett, formerly of Oak Creek, passed away Thursday morning, May 31, 2018.
Born Oct. 6, 1919 in Milwaukee County, the oldest of three children, to Joseph and Helen Wirkus. On May 12, 1945, he married Ruth Wolter in Milwaukee and they lived in Oak Creek for most of their lives, where he worked as a fleet maintenance supervisor in the Milwaukee area until retiring. They moved to Gillett 14 years ago where he was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls.
Survivors are three children, Susan (Ron) Willes, Gillett, Wayne (Jayne) Wirkus, Wind Lake and Keith (Sharon) Wirkus, Shawano; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beatrice Hareng, Franklin and Grace (Lawrence) Marsch, Caledonia.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 2014; a brother-in-law, Norman Hareng and other relatives.
Visitation was held at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls on Monday, June 4 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Matthew Arnold officiated with burial in Wanderers Rest Cemetery in Gillett. Memorials can be made to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls.
