Born Sept. 6, 1927, to Andrew and Mary (Dzurick) Hudak in Marinette, she attended Walsh and Winesville Elementary schools and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Marinette in 1945.
After graduation, she moved to Sparta, where she worked as a typist for the Civil Service at Camp McCoy. She then married him, James Downs, on Aug. 3, 1946 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Walsh, near the Hudak family farm.
They lived in Marinette and had two red headed sons, Jim and Mike. She loved being a stay at home mom until the boys entered school when she returned to work as a bookkeeper at Christianson Roland and Johnson in Marinette for 25 years before retiring 1988.
With a strong faith, she was active in her church in the Altar Society, was a Lecture, a Eucharist Minister, Religious Education teacher and sang in the choir into her late 80s.
In 1979, she began a new spiritual journey by supporting her husband as he was ordained a Deacon in the Diocese of Green Bay. From 1988-1995 she was a patient, loving caregiver for him after he suffered a stroke.
Family and friends were central in her life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a Boy Scout leader for her boys' troop; enjoyed golfing, riding her bike to work and was a devoted wife, parent, neighbor, friend and parishioner.
