THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Over 4500 People Attend Breakfast on the Farm
Issue Date: June 28, 2018
The Marinette County Breakfast on the Farm held on June 24 at Carlson Farm, N3654 Carlson Lane, Peshtigo was a huge success, with over 4,500 people in attendance.
Kevin Carlson is the 3rd generation owner of Carlson Farm. He began milking on his grandfather's farm in 1981 with 13 cows. In 1984 he partnered with his father across the road and together they milked 70 cows. Kevin and his wife, Katie, took over the farm in 1994, and through the years they added a free stall barn, parlor, machine shed, hay shed, and heifer facility. In recent years they updated the parlor to a 24 stall carousel and added an automatic calf feeder. The farm currently houses 340 cows and 320 young stock and is run by Kevin and Katie, his father, Ron, his son, Alan, and two other part time employees. Additionally, Kevin and Katie's daughter, Kimberly and the families of his two sons, Dan and Alan, help when additional assistance is needed.
The hungry patrons consumed 240 gallons of ice cream, 84 gallons of milk for smoothies and pancake mix, 3000 chocolate milk and 1000 white milk chugs, 480 cartons of orange juice, 1500 pounds of eggs, 60 pounds of shredded cheese, 4900 butter pats, 52 pounds of butter, 3000 individually wrapped cheese sticks, 400 pounds of cheese curds, 500 pounds of pancake batter mix, and 20 gallons of maple syrup. "It was a great breakfast event, and we look forward to next year", stated Cory Kuchta, one of the many breakfast volunteers.
Proceeds from the event are reinvested into ag-related promotions in Marinette County throughout the year with youth.
