Raise Flag"As part of the Open House for the new Bay Area Medical Center on Tuesday, July 17 a reception was held for the Business and Professional Communities. During the Open House activities an American flag was raised for the first time over the new hospital. Doing the honors were Julie Erickson, a BAMC employee and Menominee American Legion members Steve Fifarek and Steve VanEyck. A crowd of over 175 people attended the first in a series of open houses slated for the new hospital. Top Photo-An aerial view of BAMC is pictured. Offer Public Tours Of New BAMC Hospital July 20, 21

Issue Date: July 19, 2018

After more than two years of work and nearly a decade of planning, construction of the new $135 million Bay Area Medical Center (BAMC) is nearly complete. The public is invited to tour the new hospital and total health care facility 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 21.

The move from the old hospital on Shore Drive to the new one on University Drive is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 16. Hospital spokesmen say everything is being coordinated for a smooth transition of all patients and services from the old building to the new 68-bed facility on that day.

Members of the local business community were treated to preview tours at an open house on Tuesday, July 17. As part of the afternoon's events a flag raising ceremony took place at 5 p.m. near the front entrance.

Lead contractor was the Boldt Company of Appleton, and Cannon Design of Chicago was the primary architect. Input from staff members was solicited before the plans were drawn.

The new facility replaces the building that once was Marinette General Hospital. Parts of it were built in 1939. The emergency department and updated inpatient rooms were added in 1970.

The new medical center features five separate entrances for easy patient access to all five major service areas.

The facility includes:

*An inpatient hospital, with 68 totally private rooms with private baths and windows looking out on serene views of forested areas and gardens surrounding the hospital;

*A fully modern Emergency Department which includes increased privacy and security, all private rooms, dedicated consult rooms for families, triage and assessment rooms, a decontamination room for cases involving chemical spills or pesky insects; two secure rooms for patients with mental issues, easy access for emergency vehicles, a dedicated helipad, easy access to other diagnostic services in the building;

*A Cancer Center with radiation and chemotherapy offered in one location and immediate access to other hospital and specialist services;

*Heart and Vascular Center, which includes 14 exam rooms, disease management services, vascular testing and therapy,

*Women's Health Center, which offers numerous diagnostic and treatment services for women.This center is located right down the hall from the in-patient hospital Obstetrics department, which has five labor and delivery rooms and a dedicated C-section suite.

*Dedicated areas for inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures and recovery.

The entire facility is bright and welcoming. The main entrance lobby gives easy access to the cafeteria, which will serve meals 12 hours each day, as well as the hospital gift shop, information and registration desk, retail pharmacy, administrative offices and hallways leading directly to the cancer center, surgery clinic and wound care clinic. There is also space for therapy, rehabilitation and physician offices and clinics.

A small chapel located near the inpatient hospital's intensive care unit features a set of lovely stained glass windows that were carefully moved to the new hospital from their original location in the old BAMC/Marinette General Hospital building. The stained glass panels were designed and constructed by Don Kotecki of Crivitz.
