Red Wave Battles To 2nd Place In State Tourney

The Menominee Red Wave Opened their State Tourney with a good win over Gaylord 7-4.
The Red Wave got things going early and built a nice lead, exiting the third ahead 3-0.
Gaylord fired back with a three run fourth, but one run during the fifth and a three runs in the final inning gave the Red Wave the 7-4 win.
Matthew Delfosse earned the win allowing five hits, three runs and four walks while striking out six.
Drew Koenig took the loss allowing eight hits, seven runs and three walks while striking out three.
At the plate Menominee's Jason Janquardt continued to lead the way with a two of three showing with three RBIs to boot. Andrew Schroeder went two for four with two runs and an RBI.
Gaylord's Koenig was two of three at the plate with one run.
Menominee Gets Past
Gladstone to Advance
to Championship Round
The Menominee Red Wave saw Gladstone take the early lead in their first meeting of the State Tourney. But were able to find a way to push past the good Gladstone start for a 9-7 win.
After a scorless first inning from both sides, Gladstone opened the top of the second with a huge four run blast. They improved that four run lead to five runs over the third.
Menominee returned fire during the bottom of the third with five runs to tie things up 5-5.
Starting off the five run rally was Alex Hanson who walked. Andrew Schroeder reached base on an error while Matthew Delfosse singled to load the bases. Jason Janquardt scored Hanson and Schroeder while Delfosse reached home off an error. Jacob Rivard pushed the tally to five runs with a two run single.
Gladstone recaptured the lead during the sixth with a two run effort while Menominee wrapped up things with four runs over the bottom of the sixth for the 9-7 lead, which they held over the last half inning.
At the plate Menominee was led by Kyle Struve with a three of four effort while Jake Rivard went two of three.
On the mound Menominee's Bryce Tharp took the win allowing seven hits, seven runs and four walks while striking out two.
Gladstone's Cooper Cavadeas allowed three hits, four runs, two walks and two strikeouts.
The win advanced Menominee to the championship round where they once again face off with Gladstone.
Win Over Menominee
The Menominee Red Wave Legion baseball team faced a hard championship round this past weekend in their State Tournament held in Menominee.
After defeating Gaylord and Gladstone to advance to the championship round, Menominee faced Gladstone over two games to decidewho would be number one.
After seven innings of game one of the championship round Gladstone was on top 9-7.
The first inning saw Menominee and Gladstone both push one run across the plate. Menominee took the initiative during the second inning, taking the 2-1 lead.
It looked as if the Red Wave may have been building a little steam, as two more runs crossed home during the third. But Gladstone was quick to recover as a three run bottom of the third tied things up at 4-4.
Again Menominee was able to seize the moment, regaining the lead after the top of the sixth 6-4.
But Gladstone's five run bottom of the sixth proved to be too much for the Red Wave to overcome.
At the plate Menominee's Jason Janquardt was two of four with two RBIs. Alex Hanson was two of four with one RBI.
Taking the loss on the mound for Menominee was Zach Hanson who allowed six hits, three runs and two walks while striking out two.
Taking the win on the mound was Gladstone's Keagan Monroe who gave up four hits, five runs and one walk while striking out two.
Menominee Unable to
After dropping their Saturday state match up to the Gladstone boys, Menominee faced off with them again on Sunday for the State Championship. This time falling to a much larger margin 11-4.
Gladstone mustered up a six run top of the first, which sent the Red Wave reeling and struggling to regain their composure.
The third inning saw Menominee get one run in while Gladstone refused to call off the dogs, blasting in two runs each over both the fourth and fifth innings.
Menominee's Jason Janquardt was two for two at the plate with two runs while teammate Kyle Struve went two for three. Matthew Delfosse two for three with one run.
On the mound Gladstone's Ian Schwalbach took the win with eight hits allowed. He also gave up four runs and five walks while striking out four.
Alex Hanson was saddled with the loss allowing two hits, six runs and four walks.
