Successful Day"A large crowd was present for the annual Peshtigo Historical Day activities Saturday, Sept. 29. The day started off with a run/walk enjoyed by over 200 participants. Prizes were awarded in each age class. Food and refreshments were available throughout the grounds at Badger Park. A group of historical re-enactments provided history lessons on what living was like many years ago. A huge parade with over 70 units was enjoyed by thousands of people. The parade route started on French Street by Lee's Family Foods and ended at Badger Park. There were several bands that played during the day. A giant fireworks display at dusk ended the day's activities. Plans are already underway for next year according to Joe Nystrom, chairman of the Historical Day Committee. 30th Annual Historical Day is Huge Success

Issue Date: October 4, 2018

Despite the cold weather, the 30th annual Peshtigo Historical Day had a fantastic turnout on Saturday, Sept. 29, according to Joe Nystrom, chairperson. The day started with the Firetower Walk/Run at 8 a.m. with 198 runners and walkers. The parade with over 70 units followed the run. The crowd estimated at over 3,000 people lined the parade route.

The 2nd annual Bike Ride to the Harbor was held at 12:30 p.m. and a horseshoe tourney and car show with 58 entrants started at 1 p.m. A craft fair ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Historical re-enactors were phenomenal, Nystrom added. Attendees raved about all of the wonderful food available.

Music was provided by Sunny and the Heat, Music Jar, and Neon Detour. Kids games were great, especially the Knockers Bubble Balls, Nystrom said. He also said the community support was super. The Historical Day Committee spent $5,000 on fireworks that concluded the event at dusk.

The 30th Annual Peshtigo Fire Tower Run/Walk took place on Saturday, Sept. 29th at Bulldog Stadium. A total of 198 participants braved the frosted morning to toe the starting line. The race consisted of a 10K Run, which looped around Peshtigo's original fire tower landmark, a 5K run and a 5K walk.

Forty-eight females finished the 5K run. The top five females were Emily Ermis of Peshtigo, Vanessa Wentworth of Peshtigo, Brenda Blink of Green Bay, Kelly Bergquist of Stephenson and Keri Kuran-Shehan of Madison. Thirty-two males completed the 5K run. Top five males were Jacob Polfas of Carney, Nolan Gruis of Oconto, Kadin Baxter of Marinette, Brendon Peterson of Green Bay and Josh Hitt of Marinette.

Nineteen women finished the 10K run. Top 5 were Jessica Van Beek-King of Waunakee, Becky Chaltry of Marinette, Diane St.Martin of Menominee, Jamie Votava of Marinette, and Megan Cheney of Peshtigo. 19 men finished the 10K. Top five were Kevin O'Rourke of Marinette, Brent Riopelle of Green Bay, Justin Oberg of Peshtigo, Garrett Swenson of Marinette, and Karl Mantai of Pulaski.

Sixty people completed the 5K walk. The top three finishers were Patricia Barrett of Oconto Falls, David Knutson of Peshtigo and Mark and Amy Fessenden of Abrams.

The Peshtigo Run Committee would like to thank everyone who participated and volunteered, making the morning a positive and fun event. The run proceeds will be donated back to the Peshtigo Cross Country Team, the Peshtigo Students Eat Everyday (SEED) Program and the Peshtigo Fire Department.

The run committee would also like to thank the following sponsors: Bellin Health, Kountry Rhode RV and Auto Center, Peshtigo National Bank, Great Lakes Custom Tool, Spangenberg Law Offices, George Webb Restaurants, Bill and Jeanne Clement, Bulldog Boosters, BPM, Inc., Stalheim Chiropractic, Peshtigo Times, Edward Jones Justin Oberg, N.E.W Credit Union, State Farm Rick Thill, Rennes Health and Rehab Center, TEAM Plumbing of Peshtigo, Anderson's Culligan of Peshtigo, Big Bear Custom Graphics and Lee's Family Foods. We'd also like to thank landowners: Tim and Debbie Rennes, Lynn and Larry VanHoof and John Gordon, as well as medal designer Iconik Etching and DJ Scott Prestel.
