Florence County Judge Sets $5,000 Bail For Former Pound Man

Former Pound resident, William J. DeGrave, 30, now of Niagara, made an initial appearance Tuesday, Jan. 22 in Florence County Court in connection with one felony count each of possession of amphetamine (second or more offense), and possession of THC (second or more offense) plus one misdemeanor count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
If convicted on all counts, DeGrave could face $21,000 in fines and up to seven years in prison.
DeGrave was released on a $5,000 signature bond. An adjourned initial appearance is scheduled for 10 .m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
According to the criminal complaint, DeGrave's address was 8136 County Hwy. Z, Pound, until Jan. 8, after which it was reported as 1948 River street, Niagara.
He was reportedly pulled over for a minor traffic violation by Marinette County deputies in the Florence County Town of Long Lake on Sept. 6, 2018. The officers searched the vehicle and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. They also found that DeGave was driving with a suspended driver's license. He has a 2013 conviction in Wisconsin for possession of drug paraphernalia and a 2015 conviction for possession of THC.
The complaint against DeGrave was filed on Tuesday, Dec. 18 and a summons was issued on the same date.
An order for appointed legal counsel was signed by Circuit Court Judge Leon Stenz on Thursday, Jan. 24, and a Demand for Discovery and Inspection was filed on behalf of the defendant on that date.
