Albert P. (Al) "Buzzy" Behrens, 84, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 at home.
Born Aug. 23, 1934 in Menomonee, Mi., to Albert Behrens and Edna Buchman, he was raised in Marinette and graduated from Marinette High School in 1952. He then served in the United States Army and after an honorable discharge, returned home to manage the family resort in Marinette.
He then attended UW-Madison, graduating in 1961 with a major in Economics and minors in English and Chemistry. There he met Mary Winiger of Prairie du Sac of whom he married on July 9, 1966 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2003.
They moved to Milwaukee to raise their family and begin their careers. He worked as part owner of Infratrol, then became Vice President and Controller of Hatco Corporation, where he retired from.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife, children and friends and loved excursions. They purchased a cottage near Prairie du Sac on Lake Wisconsin in 1973 and spent a lot of time there boating, fishing, skiing, cooking, playing cards and entertaining family and friends. An avid Badger fan, including football, hockey and basketball, he regularly returned to Madison to attend sporting events.
He will be remembered as an entertainer who loved inviting family and friends to join him for social occasions that sometimes included a card game, especially Sheepshead. A lifelong patron of the Milwaukee Symphony and Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, he was known for making lists and spreadsheets of everything so nothing would be forgotten or missed.
Survivors include a son, Tim Behrens, of Grafton; a daughter, Amy (Brion) Schaefer, of Evansdale, Ia.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Kleeman of Milwaukee and Marlene Waugus of Germantown; a sister-in-law, Jenifer Winiger of Madison; a long-time friend and caregiver, Stella Love of Milwaukee and many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a sister, Jean Bannow and four brothers-in-law, Philip Winiger, Don Waugus, Lauren Bannow and Tom Kleeman.
Visitation will take place at Mueller Funeral Home and Crematory, 979 N. Green Bay Rd., Grafton on Friday, April 5 from 10 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at noon. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of one's choice are appreciated.
