Coleman Softball Meets

Trails End In Shiocton

The Shiocton girls took on The Coleman Cougars last Thursday night, and sent the girls in green back home with a tough 5-1 loss.

The loss ended a wonderful season by the Coleman girls who all season long were able to pile up runs thanks to superb hitters at the plate. Not only did Coleman hit well all season long, but their pitching ace Cameron Compe did an exemplary job at the helm of the Cougar defense.

During the Cougars game with Shiocton Compe did all she could to keep the sharp hitters of Shiocton at bay. By games end she had allowed only eight hits and five runs while walking one and striking out two.

The Coleman hitters were led by Kailey Klimek with a one of three performance and Megan Frasier who replicated that mark.

Cassidy Defferding pitched for the Shiocton win allowing three hits and six walks while striking out seven.

The Shiocoton hitting crew wasn't short on contact with Coleman pitches during the game as Legiha Young led the way with a two of four showing and a double along the way. Cassidy Defferding swatted a crucial home run during the match that resulted in three RBIs. Erica Gassner was two of four with a double.

Blue Devils Battle

For Regional Win

The Oconto Blue Devils softball squad were the victors in Thursday nights Regional match up with the visiting Amherst Falcons, knocking them out of the air with a 7-3 final verdict.

Oconto was first to score registering their first run in the opening frame. They posted three more over the third before adding a two run fifth to the tally. Amherst responded with a little spark during the sixth which resulted in a three run push.

The Blue Devils ended the sixth inning with their seventh run of the night.

Pitching for the win was Oconto's K. Susa who allowed four hits, three runs and one walk while stirring out two and allowing one home run, which is where all three Amherst runs occurred.

S. Lee took the loss for Amherst giving up seven hits, seven runs (four earned) and two walks while striking out five. She allowed two home runs from the Oconto girls.

At the plate the Blue Devils saw Morgan Durand key in on a couple of pitches, a couple of pitches that she sent for a ride out of the park. At games end she had gotten two home runs along with four RBIs. She was two of two at the plate with three runs to boot.

Sohrweide was two of four for the Blue Devils with two runs and an RBI while Brill went one of three with one run.

Panthers' Allen Blasts

Her Way into Sectionals

The Panther girls found a win against the Denmark Vikings last Thursday to take a Regional Final victory 5-0.

The win was highligthed by a two homer night off the bat of Oconto Falls' K. Allen. Allen two homers helped to push home three runs during her two of two plate appearance.

Tolzman who has kept opposing hitters at bay all season long continued her successful ways by allowing only five hits and one walk during her seven innings pitched. She struck out one on the night.

The Panthers shutout win saw them score one run over the first and two run over the follwing next two inning for their five point readout.

At the plate Falls' Allen was followed by Tolzman who went four for four with one RBI and C. Johnson who was two of four with one RBI.

Denmark's Kinjerski went two for three at the plate while teammate Jensen was two of three.

Denmark's G. Nys took the pitching loss for the Vikings giving up nine hits, five runs and seven walks while striking out 12. She also gave up those two Allen home runs.

Wausaukee Is Regional

Champ With Win

Over Goodman-Pembine

The Wausaukee Rangers who were in the tough all season long remained so last Thursday when they faced the Goodman-Pembine Patriots at home for the Regional Championship in Div. 5.

Wausaukee got that championship by posting an 11-1 final verdict. A mercy rule ending in a regional championship game? If the competition doesn't have an eye on the Rangers they should now.

Wausaukee's big night started early with a massive blitz to start the match. After their third out of the first inning Wausaukee led 9-0.

Starting the early rally was Madely Schlies who walked to be the first runner on during the match. Next was Kaelyn Schlies and she sure set the tone in this one as she slugged a home run for the two run lead.

Kyle Smith reached next on a single while Avery Bartles also made it on with a single. Amber Caylor brought in Smith with a single while Natalie Grutza kept the bases jammed up with a walk. With runners on and two out Wausaukee's Callie Orlando made solid contact with a pitch, sending it on a a ride to the outfield for a three RBI double.

Before Goodman-Pembine could escape the inning Madelyn Schlies made them pay again, hitting a single for another RBI. Kaelyn Schlies also made a second first inning appearance, swatting an RBI double for the 9-0 opening frame lead.

The Wausaukee hits weren't the only thing that was going on in this match, The Ranger bull pen was on fire as well. Stepping out into the pitching circle for the Rangers during the regional final was Allison Versaskas who kept the Patriot hitters from ever finding a rhythm.

With the exception of the third inning the Rangers never allowed more than four Partiots to go to the plate in any of the other four innings.

Goodman-Pembine got one run over the third inning, as K. Nelson hit an RBI single, bringing in K. Erickson.

With the score set at 9-1 the rangers needed just a couple more to end the game in its fifth inning. And they got them as M. Schlies cracked a triple followed by K. Schlies on a single to bring her home. Smith got the game ending run off a single.

At the plate the rangers were led by M.Schlies who was three of three during there game. She had one RBI and three runs. Versaskas was also three of three with one run and one RBI. K. Schlies was three of four with two runs and four RBIs. She also hit a home run. Smith was three of four with one run and one RBI.

Pitching for the loss for the Patriots was K. Berger who allowed 15 hits, 11 runs and two walks while striking out five.

The win was taken by Wausaukee's Versakas with four hits allowed all night. She struck out nine while allowing one run and one walk.

"Our saying this year is "it's a process"," said Wausaukee Head Coach Sue Stoltenberg. "We must be committed to the process. Making commitments to our teammates and the program. We will take this process as far as we can. It was a great win for our team."

Bobcats Look

Dangerous With

Win Over Rangers

The Wausaukee rangers were the last of the areas best left on the WIAA tournament trail. But last Tuesday they saw their state hopes fade as the Florence Bobcats took control early to win 6-2.

"I told my girls, you seniors have done so much the last four years," said Wausaukee Head Coach Sue Stoltenberg. "I told them that they the players have made softball so much better in this area, because everybody wants to beat us. We have long tradition here of winning, which places a target on our backs. Everyone wants to beat us."

The Bobcats led off the first inning with a single from Jenna Springer. Springer went home in the next at bat when Sidney Tomczak off a single.

Jordyn Springer hit a double for another RBI, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 early lead.

Wausaukee was quick to recover stopping the Bobcats in their tracks in the second inning, but the third saw the Bobcats open things up again.Springer and Lacey Endes both crossed home for the 4-0 lead.

Wausaukee scored their first of two runs in the fourth .Kaelyn Schlies hit a single to reach and worked her way to the plate for the 4-1 deficit.

"We couldn't handle their pitcher tonight, all those little pop up hits killed us tonight," said Stoltenberg.

Florence made it 6-1 over the sixth inning thanks to runs from Ashlyn White and Kathleen Selden.

"We were so close to the conference championship this year and have fought through the post season, We just came up short on everything. Offensively we just couldn't build momentum. All the pieces for a win were here just not put together."

Madelyn Schlies got Wausaukee's second run in the sixth inning.

Wausaukee's Allison Versaskas took the loss allowing seven hits, six runs (four earned) and three walks while striking out four.

"I'm so excited for next year already," said Stoltenberg, "We have such a good squad coming back next year. You always hate saying good bye to your seniors because they are your teams bread and butter. Whether everyday players or role player."

Sidney Tomczak took the loss allowing four hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks while striking out five.

"I can't say enough about the improvements I saw from Natalie Schroeder, said Stoltenberg. "She just was outstanding. And Calli Orlando as well, who is just one of the best shortstops around.," said Stoltenberg.
