Marinette Falls To Menominee; Recovers Against Double Days

Issue Date: July 11, 2019

Marinette Gives Two

To Sheboygan in DH

The Marinette Post 39 legion, coming off the heels of a tough going in the annual Firecracker Tournament faced a tough challenge in their double header against the visiting Sheboygan boys at Pedersen Park Tuesday night falling 12-2.

It didn't take Sheboygan long to start setting the tone as they blasted four runs in, after loading the bases in the first inning.

After pulling themselves out of that tough inning, the Marinette boys found themselves in another, as the Sheboygan guys hit their way to three more runs to end the second.

Before Marinette was able to get some momentuem Sheboygan plugged out two runs to take the 9-0 lead.

Then came the bottom of the fourth and with it a spark of life from the post 39 boys.

Trevor Bloch got things going with a lead off single and was followed by Trey Bretl who walked. Following a fly out Marinette saw its next to guys walk efficiently loading the bases.

Nick Teteak took the bases loaded walk for a run. Hunter Woulf wrapped up the inning with a shot that brought in Bretl for the 9-2 differential.

What little ground gained was taken away by Sheboygan in the fifth with another three run push to lift the score to 12-2. After a scoreless last inning the Marinette boys were handed the 10 point loss.

Game two ended the way Sheboygan wanted, but thats not to say the Marinette boys didn't do a little something to make it harder on them.

Sheboygan got one run to start the first inning.

With only one run to their name the Sheboygan guys struggled to build a huge like they did in the first match, much of that had to do with some great defensive play and some superlative pitching from Jaden Werner on the mound.

But come the sixth everything began to change as Sheboygan opened up for 7-0 lead by innings end.

Marinette's one and only run came in the sixth inning when Trevor Bloch reached base on a throwing error and crushed home off a wild pitch.

Marinette had a runner threatening in the final inning but could not find the hit needed to ring him home.

Jaden Werner was handed the loss for marinette giving up just one run during five innings.

Menominee Defeat

Marinette For

Second Time

this Season

The Menominee Red Wave Legion Baseball team took their second straight M&M baseball match up this season, this time defeating Marinette with a 3-1 verdict.

Menominee scored first to get the gears tunring, doing so when Alex Hanson doubled to left center and scored when Jesus Bercerra hit his single, giving the Red Wave the game opening 1-0 lead.

Marinette got on the board during the third inning when Bretl drew a walk followed by Jaden Werner's base off an error. Nick Teteak brought Bretl in off a single while Werner made his way to third. Hansen rescued the inning leaving the score set at 1-1.

The top of the fifth saw the Red Wave produce a hit to retake the lead. Jake Rivard led off that inning with a single followed by Ethan Russell who bunted to advance Rivard.

With bases loaded Keaton Uecke was up to bat next as he raced to first off an infield single that left Rivard open for a stab at the plate. Rivard made it, giving the Red Wave the 2-1 lead.

Janquardt would later score giving the Red Wave a 3-1 lead.

After a little defensive back and forth over the closing inning Menominee held on to wash away the Marinette boys 3-1.

Alex Hanson took the mound win for Menominee allowing four hits, one run and three walks while striking out one.

Trey Bretl took the loss for Marinette giving four hits, three runs and three walks while striking out seven.

At the plate Marinette was led by Eick who was three of three. Bretl was one of three with a run while Teteak was one of four with an RBI.

Menominee's hanson was two of three at the plate with a run while Janquardt went two of four with a run. Rivard finished his night one of one with a run.

Marinette Overcomes

Skid With Win

Over Appleton

The Marinette Legion Post 39 boys have had a rough time on the diamond the past week, finding themselves in the midst of a four game losing streak, but the kibosh was put on that skid Monday night at Pedersen Park when the Marinette boys defeated the Appleton Double Days 8-7.

Though Post 39 ended the game on top Appleton was first on the board, getting one run in the first inning, as trent Harp reached base and was driven home off a Nickey Groff single.

But that one run did nothing to shake the confidence of a Marinette team which was starving for a win. And come the second inning Post 39 feasted on an open home plate, pushing across six runs to grab the lead.

With a runner on, Brandon Eick ratcheted out a double. Will LaLonde brought in the first Marinette runs of the game off his two run single.

After the scoring runs Marinette began filling the base with Trey Bretl hitting a single to load up. With all three runners ready to sprint to the plate Jaden Werner stepped into the box and let loose a liner that brought in three runs and placed him on second, with a little help from his friends Werner was able to step on the plate for the 6-2 lead.

The Double Days worked out a fifth inning run before Werner helped to make a little breathing room with a seventh inning two run homer over the left field fence. The third run of the inning was obtained by Nick Teteak who reached off a single and scored off a wild pitch for the 8-4 lead.

But the Double Days weren't going to just give Marinette the game as the seventh saw a flood of Appleton runs nearly surmount the lead.

After a walk Appleton's Alex Mox clubbed a single to score a runner. Isaac Kramer nearly helped to steal the lead with his RBI double, but thanks to some good last pitches from Mason Risner, who struck out the third and final out, the Post 39 boys ended their losing streak.

Werner took the mound win for Marinette allowing 11 hits, six earned runs and five walks while striking out two over his five and two thirds innings.

Werner led at the plate with a two of five showing with two runs, four RBIs and a home run. Lalonde was one of three with two RBIs.

Red Wave Fall to Negaunee

The Menominee Red Wave had a tough time handleing the home field Neguanee boys when they took them on Tuesday night in a 3-2 loss. Menominee got one run in the first inning when Alex hanson went home off a Keaton Uecke gorund out.

In the top of the fifth Monroe gave the Red Wave another run when Monroe went home off a Dante Sartorelli sac. fly.

Neguanee responded with two in the bottom half of the inning and kept the Red Wave back over the closing frame.

Monroe was saddled with the loss giving up four hits, three runs and two walks while striking out 10.

At the plate Monroe got the only hit going one of three.
