Man Killed in ATV Crash Near Walsh
Issue Date: July 18, 2019
William P. Doyen, Jr., 49, of rural DePere, was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday, July 13 as the result of an ATV roll over on Porterfield Town Road 41 just east of the intersection of State Hwy. 180 and Marinette County G near the Menominee River in Walsh.
Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve reported his office received a call at 7:43 a.m. on Saturday of a burned 4-wheeler and deceased male with the wreckage on Town Road 41, which is a two-rut road to the Menominee River.
Sheriff's deputies and Wisconsin DNR wardens responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation showed the ATV was eastbound from 180 when it rolled over and ended upright, with the driver pinned beneath it. The ATV caught fire and burned, along with the victim, who was later identified as Doyen.
Sauve said the accident was investigated by his office and the Marinette county Medical examiner and will be considered a traffic fatality because it happened on a roadway. This is the fourth traffic fatality of the year in Marinette County.
Doyen reportedly loved to travel, hunt, fish and relax at his grandmother's cottage in Crivitz. He and his wife, Janet, started their JBD Communication business in 2003.
Funeral services are to be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19 at Zion Lutheran Church in Greenleaf, preceded by visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Ryan Funeral Home in Depere and then from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
